What ever he used in 76 it wasn't that Merc, that's for sure.

I don't remember well,  but I think it was an Alpine Berlinette.

Didn't have to be so in a hurry. He just had to leave on time.

A beautiful visit of Paris. Did you notice that most of the street were with pavers ....  :o

Actually, a similar Merc was used in 1976.

The engine sound was dubbed from a Ferrari 275GTB 5 speed 12 cylinder, since the  Mercedes-Benz 450SEL 6.9 (as seen) has a 3 speed automatic transmission and a V8.

Cult movie.....

I've heard François Cevert's name mentioned as the mystery driver, but this seems to ignore the fact that he was killed at Watkins Glen in 1973  ::)

As for the car, it was one of those beasts of an S class. My mate has an 80s 560 S class and I can confirm that it is in no way impeded by its size and weight. I think the 6.9 is even hairier. And, if my middle aged memory isn't faulty, it was a Mercedes-Benz 450SEL 6.9 that did some sterling work in the seminal French car chase film 'Ronin'.

Yes, it was the same model car in Ronin - have a look at the driving in the first ten seconds, astounding. The Mercedes is HUGE.
