Dunno but I caught a bit of the motogp on telly the other day. What is it with some of the riders waving one leg arond and dabbing the road with it under braking? Looks bl66dy stupid! Are they trying to distract? Got cramp? Worried the tarmac has been nicked...?

The days of riders entering corners with their knees pressed firmly against the tank. Mind you it still looks way better than the modern approach imho.

rossi said it was a stress relief thing, i think that now the bikes are just so good, the riders really are riding right on the edge of their endurance.

Hmm I see, don't get me wrong, I don't mind people hanging off the bike, tidy though the classic style is I understand the need for getting the CofG lower and to the inside, I just find it weird that they give up one of the four control points whilst braking hard and wave a relatively heavy lump of flesh and bone around. So much for the finely balanced weight distribution ;-))
Oh and it still looks bl66dy silly! :-))

I thought the leg waving was to increase wind resistance, slowing the bike for a corner. And to discourage passing on the inside. Every little bit counts, and the wind resistance of a leg and foot must be considerable.

To be fair, if the blokes riding at that pace, on those bikes, think it's helpful then who are we to judge differently? Even if it's a psychological aid, it still helps them and I guess that's all that matters.

However, if I see a road rider doing the same this summer I will probably fall off laughing  ;D

(Grins) fair comment, as to the mimic road rider, my reaction will be the same albeit I will endeavour not to fall off but rather to ride under them, in classic stylee at the next corner :-D
I still cherish the memory of doing just that, whilst riding a despatch Z200, to a local bike shop owner who was wobbling round a local corner on a Ducati 998 with full leathers, knee out etc B-)

Some pilots say they make it instinctively. They discover it by viewing the videos after the race. Where is the reality ?
It is strange to notice that, at this point of curving, they only use front break.

Oi! Andy! "Family yada yada" is not a valid, whatever, with latest "i" this and "i" that and you being a youf of the gizmo.  ;)  Thought you'd have been right into the Moto3. Auntie's iPlayer I can manage, well, sort of! So always watch Moto3 and then see how the time or inclination goes with the others. MotoGP from the bottom of a parrots cage was enjoyable last week, so will see if the 'Moonshine' boys can deliver a better track, or whether it'll be the one they use for the 'Swamp Cabbage' ho downs! Could be some nice looking tornados about!

Good health to you all and make sure the clothes peg and cardboard 'engine' is in place on the wee fella's bike!  ;)

Slainte, Bill.

Is the leg waving related to lamposts installed at the track side? That's the effect they have on our Gooner, although once moving he seems only interested in sticking his head out into the wind.

I read this in the evening after a day of old bike fettling and realised that one of us needs to  reduce the intake of amber nectar from gods own country before posting, I guess it is probably me that went one time to many to the Bells bottle but it is good to see some life back in the old forum, thanks GC.
