Ok now Boyd has gone and is definitely not going to arrange this years TC rally I can forward a proposal based on some communication with some fellow TCers.
I have cleared it with the village and inn of Cwmdu, Llandeilo to allow us to camp on their secluded village green, the date that is suggested is the weekend of 12-14th July.
The website doesn't seem to be on any more but it does have a facebook page https://www.facebook.com/#!/CwmduInn?fref=ts
Camping is on good ground in a very quiet area of a very small out of the way community, there is no shower but is a warm toilet room attached to the inn that we will have use of 24 hrs a day which is single occupancy and is large enough to do your ablutions.
The inn does great ale straight from the barrel(take it or leave it choice) and also some good ciders.
I can also arrange it for meals to be served at the inn.
A cracking rideout is on the doorstep that will take is some beautiful roads with great scenery.
If the Irish contingent wish to attend and tour for a few more days I will try to assist in finding suitable route and camping.(But I may have to come with you ;D)
If you are interested please respond so I can decide whether to take these arrangements further.

Forget the bishops castle beer festival and go to their Michaelmas Fair on the 21-22nd Sept, I went to both events the last couple of years and enjoyed the latter far more with stuff going on in the day and a nice parade of steam engines rolling down the main street(although you probably remember them in every day use ;)).....and you'll see me there at the Foxholes campsite. ;D

Hi Mark,
Well Tim's sister and her kids are up for it. They just have to make the trip up from Swansea =} Myself and Tim would love to join you all. Happy, damp memories of the Shepard's Rest. Crackin' wee week-end. Just the ticket for a pep up. Even tho Ronnie's jokes didn't improve. Hope he will have some new material this year, tho that's doubtful.
Tony is polishing stuff as we speak. ( That's the bike btw)
Roll on the 12th July. Tho it is a difficult decision with the Marching season in full swing here.
Just looking forward to drawing something that I'm gonna put on the site this time =P
Ali

Ali/Tim,
Good to hear from you, you don't have to make excuses for Ronnie you can't train an old dog, anyway the old jokes are the best.

Hi Mark,
Sorry I can't make it that weekend as I have something else planned :( Now I have managed to register I will keep an eye on up coming events. If all else fails I will see you next year for HOW 6 :)

I tried to find the Cwmdu Inn on Google Maps and my SatNav. Found it on Google Maps and Street View and it's just 858 clicks or 533 Miles away from my home, so I think I'm in for this event. I'll be on my XT600E. Would be nice to put a real address in my SatNav, since the coordinates don't seem to make sense in my Garmin. (I'm drowning in the North Sea ::) )
http://goo.gl/maps/73gT6
I'm interested in some more days in the area(as mentioned / offered in the first post) but will need to know, what's going on, since I'll have to book a ferry both ways.
Electronic map tells me to go first to Swansea and than up North. Is that correct? Or should I go North near Newport over Brecon? Tips for a good ride appreciated. :)
I will probably stay on a camping site near Dover, both going and returning. Depends… :-\
Looking forward to it.
Richard-NL 8)

Hi RichardNL,
Would be good to see you Od Fella ;-)
Try just the post code in your SatNav SA19 7DY. I know you probably have but change the country to Wales before you put it in.
My SatNav takes you straight there then.
A nicer route for you if you fancy it would be the A40. You can pick that up where you like in England or Wales depending on time you have.
That will be roughly my route. Newport-Abergavenny-Brecon-Llandovery roughly halfway between Llandeilo turn right to Cwmdu.
See you there Boyo ! ;D
Jethro

If you are in no rush then
Newport-Abergavenny-Talgarth-Brecon-Llandovery
Steve

Hi Richard, the link http://goo.gl/maps/73gT6 is the correct place and we have the use of the triangular field in front of the Inn.
Have you had all the info you need to get there, if you need any more let me know.
You are more than welcome to stop with me before or after the event.
Mark
-
Mark, I know it´s there, but my SatNav said to go here:
http://www.campingbreconbeacons.com/directions.html
Different Cwmdu ??? and that wasn´t the only one I found.
Jethro´s idea to just use the post code SA19 7DY worked out well. Exactly on the spot.
I will try the suggested touristic route along Brecon, since my SatNav now automatically sends me this way.
Thanks.

Well, I will have to do both Cwmdu's that weekend, The Thumper Club meet and the Guzzi Quota meet over at Pengenffordd.....not too far apart and nice roads inbetween!
Dave.

The time for this rally is approaching very quickly so I need to sort some things out.
The Inn is a small community run Welsh Heritage thing which means irregular opening times, it will be ok over the weekend for drinking but as for food I'd need to arrange for a chef to be in attendance.
£15 will cover the weekend camping fees and breakfasts for Sat and Sun(means free breakfasts and they are good). Two evening meals if required, Fri and Sat usually 2 and 3 course would be £20.(approx. £10 per meal)
Could I start a list of who will be in attendance at the rally and for which meals so as to inform the chef to arrange supplies.
Thanks, Mark
-
Can you put Liz and me down for breakfast and evening meals Fri and Sat, but Liz is vegetarian.
-
Can you put Liz and me down for breakfast and evening meals Fri and Sat, but Liz is vegetarian.
There will be a veggie option, Hilary is also a vegetarian, she had a nice home made veggie lasagne last time.
When I get some numbers I will see what options they can offer.
Mark

I will be attending.....Breakfast sounds good to me !
And could you put me down for evening meals aswell.
Many Thanks ;D

Unfortunately Alison cant go as she is looking after her mother who is ill and her da is away then. Don't worry about my Swansea family, as they might just call up for a few hours.
Now I know im definitely going, I cant wait!
Cheers

Hello Mark,
I just know you are going to be so pleased! Chris and my good self are attending your wonderful rally. That's DB&B for 2 days for the both of us. Is it too much to ask for a south facing plot for our tents?
Ron.
-
Breakfasts and evening meals for me please
GC

I'll be there, following a biggish change in things. Two breakfasts and evening meals for one please.
-
Is it too much to ask for a south facing plot?
Ron.
I will prepare a plot especially for you, is 6' deep enough because I know you Irish have wierd religious beliefs.
If Steffan comes along we can make an occassion of it.
Mark ;D

Will pack my habit and Thomas the Tank Engine Jimjams. (The ones with the PVC lining that you like so much). Anything planned for the Saturday?
Ron.

Anything planned for the Saturday?

Drinking, eating, little Irishman throwing, ;D
There is the opportunity for a scenic ride up around the resov.. resorv... lakes into mid Wales or the classic racing in Pembrey or a combination of the two, maybe split into two groups if prefered.
Mark
-
Classic Racing at Pembrey is highly recommended, as is the route around the Abergwesyn Rd and back via the Elan Valley Mountain route.
Choices, choices, racing at Tonfanau is this weekend, and that is pretty good too.
-
Hi Mark, Sorry to be a pain but can I cancel the evening meals please. If the brekkies are included in the price sobeit, but if not, I'll give them a miss too.
Really pickie eater nowadays. :-[
Let me know about the brekkies so I know if I need to bring extra gruel.
Cheers

OMIGOD - you've not gone veggie have you Pat ?
You know they sometimes put fish in beer don't you ?

To be fair to Pat, I saw him at the Caerphilly 10k run the other week and he's a shadow of his former self so whatever his diet is, he looks good on it. He's fast too :)

At least he's a pickle eater, or I think thats what he wrote ;D

Hi Mark
Sorry this is last minute, but is there still space for another tent. I am trying to get time off work and I will know Friday whether I am able to make it to the rally,
in which case, if they are still available can I please register for breakfasts on Sat & Sun and evening meal on Friday & Saturday night. I will confirm on Friday if i can make it or not.
Thank you.

I just booked the channel crossing for tomorrow (Thursday) . Not a ferry this time, but the Tunnel. First time. On the other side, I jumped this morning out of a plane. First time too. Can´t be much different. Now I have to pack. That´s just me. Just in time. I cannot start to pack any sooner, for some reason. And now I have to figure out how I pack all the stuff I´m used to pack on a sidecar on a small thumper. :o
No worries....
Richard-NL 8)
-
I don't suppose you could get a lift from the airforce and parachute into Cwmdu with a bike ? That would be impressive, though you would have to be riding a Brockhouse Welbike which would be a challenge to ride back, that and of course it is a two stroke rather than a Thumper.
Tunnel was great for a bike, quick and smoothly organised, hope it goes well and see you in Cwmdu.

Tony already on his way via this afternoons ferry from Dublin. He is meeting up with Tim in Beddgelert this evening. Chris and myself are on the overnight ferry from Belfast to Liverpool. Arriving at 6.30am, then down through Wales to give you all the pleasure of our company.

I hope you are not bringing that rain from last year with you.
I'll try to get to the site before you get there but if I don't(and I go somewhere else instead) drive past the Inn 50 yards, turn left onto a track then left again into the field.

Is that turning left if coming from Talley, or turning left if coming from Abergorlech ?
Is the field opposite the pub or behind it ?
I may get their very early, but its virtually local for me.

Hello Mark,
Looked up the site on the Googley Mappy Gizmo Thingy. Suppose I better say how much we'll all miss Boyd not being at the rally. :'( (Hope that sounds as though I mean it!) ;)

Knowing that most of you will be on route by now, and at some point soon downing a few beers, then talking b0ll0cks till the small hours, and.... :(and...... :(I won't be there!!!!! :'( :'( :'(
Ramadan is in full swing here so no bars are open and I only have my limited supply in the fridge to last me until we go to Oz in August.
Genuinely gutted that I'm not there this year but maybe next time, and take in the German Rally at the same time. :) :) :)
Hope it all goes well and everyone gets there and back safely.

A particularly slow bimble home - took nearly 45 minutes doing it too. Back lanes almost all the way.
What a splendid weekend was had - thanks to Mark and everybody else who made it possible. Getting the shelter up, organising the beer and snacks etc.
Excellent pub, ale and food as well. A special thanks to whoever organised the weather too.
Most impressed by Richard from the Netherlands and the Irish Cont/ingent* for travelling over to enjoy with us.
I just wish we could have fitted in both the run out and the trip to Pembrey - mainly for the Battle of Britain flyover.
Going for a bit of a lie down now, I don't bounce back from hangovers as well as I once did.
Happy Days.
*delete as appropriate.

Big thanks to Mark and all of you for a splendid TC event and for making me feel so welcome, I think on balance that clip ons, luggage, 30degree heat and Welsh Tourist traffic might best be described as an interesting combination but it was a great ride home with some cracking clear patches, I even managed to get off the bike unaided... that bloody useless sidestand!. Perhaps next time I might try something a bit more touring, rather than torturing! No it's a great ride on a clear evening, sorry Guzzi!
Thanks again, here's to more beer in the sunshine...before its back to beer in the rain in February!
Safe ride home to you all, particularly the long distance boys.

Got home without any mishaps this year :)
517 miles altogether and enjoyed 515 of them! Great to see lots of old friends and make some new ones. Hope to see you all again soon.
Thanks to Mark and family for organising the weekend for us all.
Will definitely visit Cwmdu again.
Cheers all

We got home safe and sound, well we were in the van!!!!! what a great weekend, weather, location and the company, was great to catch up with the irish guys it has been a while.
Thanks to Mark for finding such a great location, will certainly be visiting Cwn Du again, will hope to get to the bike show in September.
Hope everyone got home safe and sound.
Gareth, Liz and Penny

Sorry to miss it, sounds like a hoot, but two days slogging around the peak district in 30 degree heat with two sons, equipped with map and compass meant I had to forego the festivities this year.
Still managed a few beers mind
Nice one Mark, keep em coming

Chris and myself back home this morning. Tony is due back this evening. Many thanks to all those whose work made it such a great weekend. (Except that big git Mark)
Ron.

Many Thanks to all concerned for organising a very good Rally.
Great to see Old(Ron) Friends and also The Two Birthday Boys,Richard and Richard
Good site, pub and facilities provided by Mark and Gareth.
All the better for the weather.

Arrived at home Monday afternoon after 1.859 GPS KM (about 1.200 miles). Bloody hot ride. The XT marked its territory immediately when it got home, looking at the puddle of oil underneath it.. The engine is still too hot to investigate and I hope it´s just because I rode the last 25 miles a bit too fast. First investigation tells me, it´s the gear lever seal that was blown out or a copper washer that melted. Just glad it didn´t happen before. ;D
Many thanks to all, who made this a fabulous weekend. Mark for organizing the place, Gareth, Liz and the entire Welsh crew for the marquis and all the drinks and food in it (including the cooler). Richard for his outstanding tour along the reservoirs. And everybody for their company. Last but not least Hillary and Kate for the great birthday cake with candles. My first in 51 years. :)
Apologies to Trevor, for not recognizing him immediately. It must have been your white legs, that disturbed me. :o
As for the cheap hotel in Folkestone, I now know why, but still good enough for a night at this price. Watched grey haired bus people at the bingo, enjoying a Carlsberg. Actually pretty funny. Until we meet again, was a song played this night. Quite appropriate.
Got the Chunnel very fast. Acting stupid Dutch, standing in the wrong lane, even got me an earlier train, than I was allowed to.
All together, it was just great. Thanks again!
Richard-NL 8)
Wales, it needs an sunshade roof (for Ron). :-X
-
My white legs disturb a lot of people. They don't get out enough!
-
Good to see you have all got home safe after enjoying the weekend, you always have doubts if you have chosen a suitable location for an event but I think we did ok here and the weather being great just added to the occassion.
Thanks to Gareth for organising the rave tent and welcome pack and to the local boys to help stock it. Richard for leading the scenic rideout and Pete for the Pembrey route as well as behind the scene help.
BOYD WHO!!!!................but I would have swapped him for Ronnie anytime
Richard-NL, I'm glad you enjoyed the bingo on your stop home and aren't you old enough now to get on the grey haired peoples bus?? ;D
Ta, Mark.
-
Just been in contact with Tony, who is now home. He has asked me to thank all concerned for a great rally.
Ron.
-
Slightly weirdly I was driving a 'work' car through Tregaron today when I saw a scruffy looking bloke and sidecar coming towards me. Opened the window to wave and ....... bugger me ..... it was Mark. Back again.
Must like Mid Wales or something.
-
Yes indeed, a goodly weekend. Big thanks to Mark & Gareth and whatever mumbo jumbo they pulled off to secure the great weather. Brilliant venue and the pub served the meanest lemonade in the World! ;)
Pembrey races were great too. Love those big ol' singles on full song. Music.
BTW Wifey finished the half marathon in a very respectable time considering the hills they sent her up and the temperature she had to run in. Wasn't her fastest run, but she beat her running buddy for the first time. ;D
Thanks again to everyone, and apologies to the two Richards for missing their birthdays :-[
-
Great weekend, good company and ice cold cider. Loved the nice chilled village setting and the local pub was ace, a blast form the past and they don't make em like that anymore. Thnaks to Mark and all responsible for organising. Also picked up a new Caburg flip front helmet for £30 in the village pub!
Cheers

That's my next t-shirt right there:
'Slightly better than Two Ronnies'
No bike action here at all, as it's way too hot. Have seen an Enfield for sale which I might take a look at when we get back from Oz. Glad it all went well and everyone got back safely. Maybe next time.

Hi All, Nice to meet you all again...although very briefly for those going to Pembrey. I did intend coming back early on Sunday, but when we got back to the Quota meet at Pengenffordd, we heard that a Swedish Quota had broken down south of Brecon and had no breakdown cover, so I asked a Dutchman with a van if we could go out and find him, he agreed, so we did.
We got the stricken bike back and found the fuel pump (fuel injection) had failed, but another Swede had a spare, so we spent most of Sunday morning fixing the bike to get him mobile, last heard he was in Belgium heading for Stockholm, so that's good news.
Maybe next year.
Dave.
ps. Next years Quota Treffen is in Croatia....now that's a good ride.

I did see a Swedish Quota with panniers near Reading that particular Sunday afternoon. Passed him, when he was checking his SatNav or Map on the tank.

Hi Richard, That's a coincidence, the one we worked on was a grey 1000 and ridden by Goran. Rune, who supplied the part was on a red 1100, but he was staying in Wales until after the weekend.

Yep, I enjoyed it soooo much and Hilary had the week off so me, her(on the bike behind) and the dog(see him in the chair) went up and camped in Rhayadar for a few days swimming in the Wye.
It is a week long carnival there with different activities every evening, last night was a fancy dress wheelbarrow race around the pubs drinking a beer and doing a challenge, dunking for boiled eggs in a huge bowl of sherbert was in the pub we were at, spew everywhere. ;D

Hi Everyone,
A huge thank you to Mark, and everyone involved for a fantastic weekend. The venue was amazing, as was the weather and the company. Within forty minutes of leaving, I was sitting on a packed Swansea beach watching the air show, the hangover didn't arrive till early evening, and was soon sorted out by a trip to my sisters local!
In the end I was away two weeks, and covered 1500miles on the enfield, and I didn't even have Alison with me to start it!
Finished my holiday with a final pint in the Dyffryn Arms in Pontfaen, in the Gwaun Valley five miles from Fishguard. A real gem, just as original as the Cwmdu Inn, more basic, and with a very long serving elderly landlady.
Tony had a fantastic sunday night at a pub in Ellesmere near Oswestry. he went out for a couple of wind down pints and ended up in a full on session.
Dioch an fawr!

Bessie is a gem.
I try to get down there for a pint at least once a year - hell of a pub.

It turns out I was spouting rubbish at the rally about how much the wheel I ruined last year cost to replace.
The old memory's not what it was. It came to only £650 including labour. The wheel itself was £462 of that.

That's the trouble with rallies and alcohol (but mostly alcohol), you either spout rubbish or those listening mis-hear or mis-remember it.
I distinctly remember you saying you would be buying the first three rounds at the next rally... have I got that right?
As it happens, the other day I got a third or fourth hand report of something I'd "said" at the rally and by the time it reached me, it had completely changed meaning. You'll all be pleased to know that at the next rally I will have my mouth sealed with a strip of duct tape. (although there may be a hole for a straw) ;)

Hi All ;D
Ali here. Really missed the rally this year coz I had to look after me Mum. She's battling on. Hope I've inherited her staying power =] Anyhoo. Tim et al (I know....sounds quite posh but you all know the reality!!) had a fantastic time and YOU GOT SUNSHINE!!! It is a rare commodity here, but we've been blessed with some terrific weather. So good in fact we even tried the Shepard's Rest again this year with a few buddies. What a place! Still uber friendly, still doesn't know when to close (right Mark =]) and even better now does bottled ales!!!!! Just had to mention the hard working Tony Ross accompanied us for a bit of nostalgia. I'm posting the early morning photos of what it looks like when the suns out, coz you won't recognise it. Have a great summer all. xxxx Ali
