Hello guys,
I have locked the front on the skorp a worrying number of times :o Once ending up on the deck right in front of white van man as he pulled out (and yes, he actually said the immortal words: SMIDSY).
I'd say the tread is legal, but I'd had enough and am going to change it.
Where do you guys buy tyres? I must have been very rich when I fitted these about 3 years ago. Bridgestone BT92's front and rear.
Now no cheaper than 100 quid!!! ::) Nope! Not now!
I suspect this is rather more than the skorp needs!! And central London riding is rather hard on what I think are probably rather sporty tyres.
Recommendations for tyres please? And where to buy?
I will only replace the front. Normally I would do a pair. Not this time. Acceptible?

Oh you are so tight 230! ;)
If I were to suggest Avon Roadriders, others might think them not 'sticky' enough for the urban commute, but I think they are fine. What are the fine 'Pony Express' riders wearing these days, if that august company still plies it's trade in 'The Smoke'?
As for where to get it (should read them!)? No idea! All depends if you are fitting them (sorry, it) yourself or the hands need to be kept clean. :o

All depends if you are fitting them (sorry, it) yourself or the hands need to be kept clean. :o
Hands clean! I have done it in the past, and I am pish at it, and always end up with sore hands, marked rims. Once I gave up with a tyre half fitted and took it to "the man". He gave me back my wheel, with new tyre, and then handed me my tyre lever, which he found inside the wheel...!!
All advice accepted. I will read up on Roadriders. But I do like quite sticky, it has to be said.

I had Michelin road pilots fitted by my local shop. Good price for the tyre (compared with tinternet) and a fair price for fitting if I took the wheel off the bike. Not the cheapest but over 10k from the rear tyre and front is still looking very good after 14k. Feels nice around bends and plenty sticky enough to wear through the soles of my boots! Sh1te in the snow mind, but how often do we get that? ;)
Sometimes you get what you pay for.

My last two pairs of tyres have come from roundandblack.com and demon tweaks on the internerd.Both were for Triumph triples and cost about £150 the pair.The Tiger needed new tubes so that was another £30 on top,I think from adventurespec or something similar.Being a tight sod I fit my own tyres.

The tyres went on 3 years ago. If I buy tyres 30 quid cheaper, thats a tenner a year I save... Hmmmm :-X
Wow!! STOP PRESS!! Wife encourages husband to spend more on motorcycling!
So I went to the tyre man today. I will give him the business, tho he did say he'll fit and balance a tyre I supply for "a tenner or so" (suspect thats actually 15 quid! Plus the vat??!!)
Ride in to him in the morning, jump on the tube to work, pick up bike on the way home.
And I think I'm going to go for the same (BT92) that came off.

Yes Pat, it did, not my wallet, only to make me feel better. Anyway, the DR will be back on the go soon, and I wont be bothering about sticky tyres or locking up the front ;D

Like a new bike!!!
And even then its just the front one. (But that was dear enough!).
But my GOD it makes me happy to ride a motorcycle. Honestly, that first trip back from work (admittedly it was not neither cold nor dark, which is a change) was worth the money!
Isnt it odd, how you don't notice how slowly a tyre gets a big flat strip in the middle?? It just stops turning in. And I couldn't quite put my finger on why I couldn't ride any more...! And after a couple of days of riding the skorpion again after the DR, I just stopped trying.
Ah!!! Arriving to work happy, and home happy, thats nice too...
