Hi everyone, I have come across this new little problem with the DVLA. It used to be that when you changed the engine or had an overbore you could just fill out the new details on the v5 and a few weeks later get the revised v5 back, not now though, you have to jump through hoops, you need to show that the work was done in a garage and that the engine size is included on its headed paper no copies, or a report from the AA or RAC or from the manufacturer. I have managed to find the paperwork showing my new piston and rebore, and have sent that to the DVLA with a covering letter, so fingers crossed, as I cant get the XBR on the road until thats done, the bikes ready to go and I am eager to test it out, but I cant see me being on the road until June

As usual, a poorly thought out policy, designed to catch criminals, just makes life difficult for cheeky specials builders :(

Makes it easier to just not tell the barstewards. Then of course the insurance is invalid so why bother with that, and if you aren't doing insurance you can't get road tax so why bother with the MOT. Far easier to just buy a show plate on E-bay and the let the cameras chase law abiding idiot. >:(

Like I said, its a real pain. I have looked at many landrover, classic car and classic bike sites over the last few days, and many members are having the same difficulties and there is quite a lot of concern over this policy

Then again if the engine looks the same externally, why tell anyone anything? I can't imagine anyone's going to go measuring the bore if you have to make an insurance claim.
Cheers

Hooray !!! I got my log book back from the DVLA with the new cylinder capacity on it, my letter to them and the sale receipt must have worked. I will be on the road on June 1st come rain or (preferably) shine :)

You can't really blame the poor sods who work at the DVLA as it isn't them that dream up these badly thought out ideas. Glad the bike will be on the road soon. Mine should be ready in a week or so. (Another XBR500 on the streets!)
