I got to ride one of these flat single Guzzis a few months ago, pretty, enjoyable but very slow.

Slow is good Richard, you can enjoy the ride/moment so much more :)
-
Which is why I wrote "enjoyable". Given that I ride around on an MZ I'm fairly used to slow, and even my 'fast' bike is an ancient BMW - hardly known for their sparkling performance. I used to love bopping about on Steffans Enfield, though I actually think that the Guzzi combined its charm with a better design.
Never had a modern fast bike. Maybe one day................
:)

And I do prefer a modern brake.

Sorry Richard, I meant "Savour" :-\
-
Whats to be sorry for - a beautiful machine in every sense, love to have one. A shared delight.
-
I prefer handling, smoothness (i.e. bits work properly) and character to outright speed. So, that Guzzi looks just the ticket!
-
You're right, it may be a twin, but by God it's beautiful:

Is it me or has the standard of specials building rocketed in the last few years?
