Hi
Some time back I started a thread about MAG (Motorcycle Action Group) It lead to numerous responses that varied from complete apathy to outright hostility. A few of you are members and a few seem supportive of an organisation lobbying for rights for motorcyclists.
You may or may not be aware of proposed legislation that seriously affects our enjoyment of motorcycling and our basic rights.
A brief and far from comprehensive summarry of some key issues.
Regulations to prevent any modification to a bikes' powertrain from air filter to rear tyre size
Random road side checks to enforce the above
Super MOT tests controlling all non standard parts
Compulsory ABS on ALL new bikes
New regulations and stepped licence system for new riders from 2013
Compulsory Hi Viz for all riders and pillions. (Ireland are proposing full sleeve versions!)
France is proposing to BAN ALL BIKES over 7 years old from cities
Really , you couldn't make this up!
On the 25th September at 1.00pm. bikers from all over the UK will be making a protest.
If you have any interest in the nature of this protest then check out the MAG website or look for details in MCN or ask me.
The bottom line is if you do nothing you are agreeing to these ludicrous proposals!
(Also it could be a fun way of spending a couple of hours. Does anyone rember the large protest runs of the eighties?)
I'll keep my head down now and wait for the wave of cynicism to wash over me!!
Check out www.mag-uk.org

I also heard today at a classic car/bike show that there is going to be a speed limit for all new bikes of 70mph in 2014, but I cant find anything to confirm or deny this :(
What a load of bankers running the show!!

As you said , check out the MAG website. There's plenty you can do if you feel strongly about it. Letters to AM's MP's and MEP's etc.
Maybe even joining MAG? They do a lot of the work for you.

I think what you've picked up on is the proposed introduction of computer chips that can monitor and potentially disable engines based on riding characteristics. Speed being one of the obvious ones. These are being discussed initially as engine management aids that can disable engines if they exceed emissions regulations. I understand that a number of cars have these. Personally , I don't fancy going for an overtake to find out some bit of electronics decides that I'm contributing to global warming!!
Anyway. What about the threat to stoves?

You're not allowed to burn M.P's without an E.U approved carbon offset scheme in-place and there is also a chance that they may release dangerous carcinogens into the atmosphere ;)
