Just wondering, have any of the stove afficiandos had anything to do with wood gassifying stoves. There is a plethoria of info on the web, especially how to make one.
anything anyone wants to share?

Lots on the BushcraftUK site, main problem is that many of them require batteries to run a fan which seems a bit counter intuitive. Just make a Hobo Stove, as seen a few Llanthony trips ago. Smokey, but works fine. Or a Volcano/Kelly Kettle which is limited in what can be cooked but great fun.

you cant cook on a kelly kettle, despite what they sell for it. leaving it boiling will blow all the water out of the kelly before it starts to melt, and using the base alone loses the draught effect of the kettle. ive a woodgass stove with a fan in it that runs off a solar charged battery pack, its never run out of charge!

Can it run an electric kettle?

Yes you can, you'd just have to be desperate and have something tinned or boil in the bag. Boil it up and tip the water into a pan. Drop the tin of beans into the the hot water (top part off) and start another lot going but with your cross beams in place. Once the fire is back up, get the pan on the beams and heat further. Top off the water in the kettle as required. After about half an hour you have luke warm beans.
Given wet wood is PITA with the Kelly kettle, as a back up, hexamine tommy cookers are smaller and lighter.
I built one of those wood stoves with a 9V computer box fan. It worked, but it's like cooking with the KK, slow and luke warm. Simply not enough energy in wood unless you look at pellets. If you are carrying pellets why not carry a proper stove?

nah, my woodgas stove will boil water almost as quick as my kelly or ghillie. it chucks out some serious heat and will burn pretty much anything dryish, but i find that by far the best fuel for it is pine cones! personally, if im on my own i will use a trangia as it packs down small with the pans as well.

Managed a burger and beans at one Dragon a few years ago, on the Kelly cooking arrangement. With coffee and soup which did the job that evening.
The Hobo stove is easier for general cooking but nowhere near as fast as the KK. And smokier.
I generally carry a gas converted Trangia now, or just the SA Trangia.

I must say all the references to the cookers is fascinating! Every one I have looked up. Makes me want to get out and do some camping.

That one of Jethro's sounds like a jet about to take off - you had to be the other side of the field in Shropshire to make yourself heard over it! My Coleman Feather on the other hand was very quick, quiet and efficient ;)
