Title: XBR500 rebuild
Post by: JOOLZ on June 11, 2011, 02:27:14 PM
Well the dreaded mot is due in july so I have been busy getting the bike ready, blown fork seal and a very wobbly swinging arm needed attention. so stripped the fork legs down and rebuilt them with new seals, increased the spring tension with a spacer and reduced the damping to 10 weight oil, (oil seals blew due to the state of the winter roads with all the pot holes) Then I turned my attention to the rear, for the last couple of months it seemed odd when cornering, especially 2up and even Suzanne commented on it. Once I had removed the shocks I could really see the play in the bushings, so I removed the swinging arm removed the bushings easy job (carefully chisel down one side of the old bushings and they just pull out with your finger) resprayed the arm, and then fitted the new bushings, fairly easy job, (use the pivot bolt and some large washers and spacers and grease the bushing then just wind it in using the nut, repeat for the other side) job done. While I was at it I stripped the shocks and repainted them, gave the chain guard a respray and fitted the Probolt kit Suzanne gave me for my birthday a little while back, I also fitted a braided oil line (modified brake hose) for the head, it seemed to flow a little better than the original even though the hose is a smaller diameter, but I suppose the flow is limited by the diameter of the drilling in the bolts at either end
