I am about to replace the rear tyre on my SRX 600. At present the bike has Michelin Macadam front and rear, these were on the bike when I bought it. Is it ok to mix makes as the front still has loads of miles in it, if so what makes are recommended? The bike has original wheels.

Everyone seems to like Battlax and I have had good times on the ol' BT45

BT45's in standard sizes seem to work best.

Nothing better than bt45's. Don't try and experiment it's been done before. Not sure about mixing tyres can but try it might work.
As for wheels, going with wider rims seems to slow the steering and does not improve the grip.
Fashion dictates wider tyres. A case of style over function.
