Title: Britain's Got Talent
Post by: guest24 on May 16, 2011, 03:40:21 PM
Endured Saturday's offering and am shocked by what can only be described as out-of-touch and crass decision making by Michael Mackintyre and Amanda Holden. They had obviously forgotten they are supposed to be choosing an act for the Royal Variety Performance Show that the Queen would enjoy, and had also become deaf to the thousands of members of public in the audience who enjoyed the act on stage.

I am of course referring to the 'Highwaymen' drummers made up of serving members of the armed forces, some of whom are accredited war heroes from Iraq and Afghanistan. Leaving aside the beloved public feeling for war heroes, these guys could drum very well and the audience loved them. Just the ticket for her majesty and her loyal subjects. The American judge 'The Hoff' voted in an Anglo-patriotic way and said 'yes', but the other two judges said 'no'! It was very bizarre and I expected them to be lynched for it.

I suggest a change of judges to ones who remember what they are there for!

Any one else see it? Any opinions?

Click this thing, hopefully, to see it

How dare you mention "the steaming pile of horse manure that is bgt" on this esteemed site? Light entertainment and the Royal Ar$ing Variety Show are not what any real biker should be discussing behind closed doors let alone on an open forum such as this. My black ball is already in the bag, Sir!

Good day.

I was recently shocked to discover that the BBC failed to play the National Anthem after closing down at 11.  Scandalous.

I have decided to launch a campaign permitting only Radio 4 until standards in the club improve.

Hrumph.

Talking of telly, I just watched a good documentary on the NW200 on BBC1 Northern Ireland (God bless freeview).

BBCNI is screening the Cookstown races on Wednesday evening and the NW on (I think) Saturday. Search the BBC website for the NI sport pages and they have the listings there. BBCNI covers a few of the roadraces so it's worth keeping an eye in the listings.

you watch that *******e? wow, as if owning a Cossack hasn't lowered you enough in everyones estimation!! ;D ;D

Interestingly, I don't actually own a Cossack motorcycle.  ::)
As a point of clarity, I do have a real name but choose to use a pseudonym on this website. Hackbridge is where I live, Cossack as its my favourite real-time-strategy computer game, they were fantastic soldiers, and the bikes look interesting. So there you go, I am a truly weird Soufff Lundon boy. 8)

Stop bragging Boyd,

They'll be fluorescing like a sea squirt next!  ;)

'Wild Britain', diving off St. Abbs last episode and blowing up 1000lb ordnance off Cape Wrath, with re-breather apparatus being worn by Naval diver bomb disposal people. "One of those goes off whilst we're down there?"; "You'll be fish food!"  ;D

Bring on the 'Nitrox', Bill. :)

Seems some people on here aren`t proud of their heritage (if they ever had one) regardless of which tv channels/program they watch  ;D

I'm proud to be British because of the inclusive nature of our society, the way we can engage with a wider world (unlike the US) and because we can integrate disparate cultures with our own (Tikka Massala anyone?). Unfortunately some people think being British isn't about those things.

We've got our problems, but I think we can be proud of the way we have developed into a patchwork society whilst maintaining a strong national identity.

As for Britains Got Talent, never watched it and can't imagine why I would... but there again most of you wouldn't listen to the Archers and I love it  ;)

Egad, there seems to be some dangerous undertones coming out in what was meant as an innocent thread! My sentiments would have been exactly the same had they been Welsh Guards, Royal Scottish Fusiliers or Royal Irish Regiment. The point of the show is to find a winning act for the Royal Variety Performance Show to entertain the Queen & Joe public, not something that will entertain McIntyre & Holden.

Incidentally, I watched the programme because my 4 daughters like it and I like to spend time with them as in a couple of years I will have only 3 left at home, or even possibly 2 as they depart for college. Years are fleeing by faster than I can accumulate junk that needs fixing.
