Title: I went astray but now I have found the true way!
Post by: Dogbad on April 09, 2011, 06:59:27 PM
For I am a fool and did let the SLR 650 and the KLR 650 (Wet one) be taken from me and replaced by a V twin, Suzuki TL1000s.
I did love the Suzuki greatly but it had scorn for me and Bugge**d me about with intermittent clutch troubles!

I did, verily, speak with the dealer that I arranged the deal with and he is a "Good Bloke" and is coming back with my bikes, 5 hour drive each way for him, to reverse the deal and I will have my two loves back tomorrow, Sunday.  I shall cherish them and may even actually Clean them one day :o

I know what you mean but i just don't trust the bike as it's played me up in a haphazard and intermittent way so I daren't set off on any sort of journey knowing that I'll not have to call International rescue.
If I can clear some debts for the next year or so I am tempted to look for another TL S as, other than the problems, I loved the Characteristics of the engine etc.

I think the S is the nicer of the two to ride !
Preferably with out steering damper.

I must agree,
the S was a fantastic bike,i loved the engine it was a beast, the R was just a pale imitation in my book, still went like stink though and while the S would never win best lookin bike the R was just a mess of plastic

See I tried an -S, admittedly with a completely shot rear shock, and whilst it was good, it didn't really shine me on. I bought a FireStorm (and then a V11 Scura, then a Hayabusa, then a Tenere) in the end which some poor sap had spent £1500 on full Ti system and dyno time to give 111rwhp. I gave £75 less than that for the whole bike. Fuel range saw me move that on, but the -R I've always like the look of.
Plus, being a tight bastard, the -R's seem to hold their value less :)

I can only agree, I loved my "s",  it only went to provide seating room on the back for Mol, (Vfr800), my old tl1000s is still in Cardiff and the present owner comes down to Normans sometimes, apparently they are now a sought after "classic" and he reckons it is worth a lot of money whereas people cannot sell the "r" versions.

It may be sacrilege on this website but I do like a twin.

Airheads, Guzzis, Ducatis, Laverda 750s, Commandos etc.  Not much bigger/heavier/complex than a single if designed right but a fair bit more oomph.  The alternatives of Ducati longitudinal L twins and Guzzis sideways version are especially attractive.

I do like the SV650 and 1000 twins amongst the modern jap engines, though the S incarnation was particularly impressive.

Harleys ?  Still trying to make my mind up there.

You'll have the company of one in a couple of weeks, you like the sound if nought else. ;D

Although after a couple of hundred miles you might get sick of it.

Note: bring earplugs.

I have to admit that, if I had the money to buy it, I would have kept the s along with the singles as I loved the characteristics of the engine! I needed the simple useability of the SLR though and the KLR was part of the same deal.

Am a tad converted to the power delivery of a twin myself. Effortless and a wide spread of power when compared with a single of the same volume and you don't have to suffer that high pitched whine of a rev mad straight 4. DL's got a lervly snarl when you give her a hand full too  ;D

Happy me.
