Can anyone tell me why regular strength fuel and auto rubber hosing is so hard to find and one is compelled to use heavy walled stuff for stupid things like gearbox breathers?

It is a pain in the arse

Went for a look in the shed and found some hoses that might do the job.  Black rubber jobbies.  Also what about some propane gas hose I have knocking about, looks like the smaller one, orange though (go faster part).
