Hi all, with all this cold weather I just had to make a start on my new project. I have a few bits to get started on so I took a (rather bent) bottom yoke to work, made a couple of guide rods and mated it up to a top yoke that I had....a couple of hours later, a bit of heat, and here is the start of it all....as you can see, a bit of work yet to do on the yokes, and I dont really know which way Im going with it but I have to make a start..itchy fingers and all that. Im thinking of ordinary handlebars, as I found a brand new pair under my bench whilst having a minor clear out. This project will cost me as little as I can do it for, so Im repairing bits I thought would be no good yet didnt throw out! All bits of encouragement whatever will be graciously accepted
Ian :)

Good start ;)
Knowing you it will be taxed and MOT'd in two months :D
So cone on then, what are your plans?

Honestly Graham, Im just going with the flow. If I find an engine that looks as tho it will fit in then thats what will be. I havent got a frame as yet, just the yokes, swinging arm and wheels basically. Still waiting on Beeman to let me know whats happening with his frame and what work needs to be done on it. Other than that It will develop as it goes along.
Anyone want to throw any ideas into the pot?
Ian :D

Given that you only have the yokes we can suggest just about anything as a theme.. I'm going to suggest you aim for a thumper version of Grayson Perry's chop:

Who ever would have thought of using a Bohmerland* as a styling cue... oh I know, barking mad Turner award winning ceramicist Grayson Perry!
Well, you did ask ;)

Ian,
How are you thinking of doing the handlebar conversion ?. I you are thinking of making something like THIS (http://www.srx600.f2s.com/srx600//drawings/handle_bar_conv_abm.pdf) then I might be able to provide some more detailed drawings.(When I have finished them)
-
Hi Steve and thanks for your input.
I was actually going to put aluminium plates UNDER the yoke (possibly welding them on) and drill through the yoke and plate and then make some simple brackets (or use some from a boot sale) to hold the handlebars on. BUT I do like your version and I will have access to a CNC milling machine in February (hopefully) so something like that would be relatively straightforward. I must be getting to be a sad old bu99er as Im getting quite excited at the prospect of doing another "one off" ;D

You're welcome to that spare 400 engine I've got. I've no idea how good or bad it is, mind.
Perhaps you can remember?

You have a PM Trevor

As Im not particularly "au fait" with the TZR frame...will an SRX engine go in without too much effort? Im sure someone on here has had some experience with all of this.
Any help/advice would be most welcome.

If it helps, I have several very large hammers... ;) :D :D :D :D

Thats unusual for you to be sarcastic Graham
-
I hope I didn't come across as being sarcastic, I was only having a laugh... I'm mortified now. :(
I've got nothing but respect for your engineering capabilities... I was having a pop at my own lack of skill, not yours.

OMG I have now upset the one person I didnt want to...s**t :-[

If this was the pub I'd slap you on the back and say "what you drinking?" :D
It's a difficult game judging tone and intent in forum posts and these little things happen.
Getting back to the project, I struggled to think of anything I could donate to the build, all my stock being Honda or BMW. I'm not sure I've ever owned a Yamaha of any description.

The SZR660 uses a modified TZR125RR (Belgrada) frame, so I wouldn't rule it out. You dont fancy the speedway rolling chassis then ?

You dont fancy the speedway rolling chassis then ?
I dont think it will contain the power output that Im aiming for ;)
Thanks for the links tho....I`ll probably put a bid in on the TZR frame...looks quite a bargain at the moment.
Ian :)

Didnt bid on the TZR frame for several reasons but thanks to Steve H for his advice.

This project never got off the ground for one reason or another.....but I do have YET another SRX project which I will start another thread for.....
