Its that time of the year again for moi....namely time to insure the bikes again. I went on the MCN site and got a free copy of a magazine just for getting a quote... :) I have also read that Carole Nash usually do you a better deal if you go back to them...well talk agbout rigidity in their quotes.... no movement or flexibility . "Take it or leave it" attitude..."we provide a first class service offering what we offer"..... maybe so ..but I have to take what you are offering..not what I WANT! Then I went onto Bike Insurer website....and before I had read the full list of quotes, a gentleman phoned me from a company called Net Pig....what a breath of fresh air for me...I got both the (2009) Bonneville 865cc and the SRX 399cc insured for the princely sum of £130 fully comp , protected bonus included with Equity Red Star! To cap it all I got free legal assist from Bike Insurer just for getting the quote. I know you never quite get anything for free in this day but I have looked through the legal wording of the legal assist docs and it all seems cocha to me....Im sure someone on here will probably tell me I have been conned but at the moment..Im one happy chappy. Hope this may help someone in a similar situation

I have just had my renewal from Carole Nash,£180.Went onto their website, did the 'get a quote' thing and it came out at £113 ???

Glad you got a cheap deal, comp is probably good for the Bonnie but I wouldn't bother for the SRX, it was Equity Red Star who shipped my Skorp to the far end of the country and promptly wrote it of for fairing damage despite the bloke on the phone claiming they would negotiate with me to keep the cost inside the available funds and commenting that the bike was in mint condition (not after it had been stored by them for a few weeks it wasn't >:( I think they parked it on the bl**dy beach! >:( )
I hope you never have to make a claim but if you ever do, look out for the tick box on the form which gives tehm permission to put it into storage and keep it if they decide it's a write off, and only has an agree box and no other option! (I scored it out and annotated the form with my wishes, which is what got me the bike back).
But hey, 90% of the time it's a paper exercise and the cheaper the better! Good luck!

More of my soul in the SRX than the bonnie!!!

I recently got the XBR insured through Bennets for £80 ish which wasn't too bad - though it was only £65 last year :(
Carole Nash wanted £110! Strangely I've found that Comp is only about £7-8 more than TPFT so I went for Comp.

I find that the extra you pay for Carol Nash or Footman James is worth it for the UK and European Recovery that comes with the policy as standard..... if you travel.
I've known mates to pay £70 just for 2 weeks cover abroad and others that couldn't get it because of their bikes age.

If you intend to take your bike abroad go for Carole Nash. It certainly is more expensive but does include, reliable, national and European recovery; which as Mark points out can add £70-£80 for only two weeks where as CN is for the whole year! Can't wait till my current cheaper insurance runs out. I think CN do a multi-bike policy as well......

Years ago, insurers just didn't want bikers. Most shops were 'brokers' and enjoyed a 'heady' 7.5 % commission on premiums. Fast forward to today.... Insurance now cheaper than 20 yrs ago. Call back a firm 2 hours later and they will match your given quote, even if it's 50% less. It's all about 'body parts' nowadays. You are more likely to be involved in an injury claim, sadly, sometimes involving huge amounts of money, than many other groups compulsorily insured by law. Hence the fervent interest in us by the insurance industry. Hence the £££££cost of MCN advert spends. And the 'Carole Nash' bike show, etc etc. We have passed on from the alarm fitment blackmail, these human parasites now go directly for the big payoff.
Car bumps - a bit of whiplash. Bike bumps - compound fractures, loss of earnings, future disability, just add the £££noughts! Hit the 'punter' with monster theft excesses and save on the fraud claims bill, especially allied with the appointment of 'professional' loss adjusters, on £££performance related commission of course.
Come the pearly gates, I just wonder how many insurance industry workers will be admitted....
This is all without me getting on the great 'NO CLAIMS BONUS SCAM' - How can this be fair?????

Got mine through CN.....Yes exspensive !
BUT......Flew me home from Frankfurt...after a little scare where they had to find out if it was economically viable to bring my outfit back.
And cant fault them.....so far....with all things provided after my bump last year.
Will wait and see what my premium is this year.

Boyd, remind me to tell you about my recovery from the wilds of Ireland - depends on how you define "reliable". Also bear in mind it is not recovery but recovery insurance so if you beloved old nail breaks down in Lithuania then expect an argument after they tell you it is not economically viable to repatriate the bike. Market value and actual value to you and me are not the same thing.

I would second Steffans observations on Carole Nash. They went downhill badly since the blessed Carole sold it off.
They now package a breakdown insurance that I don't need having made arrangements elsewhere for all the family vehicles and members.
So I go elsewhere, especially after Steves Irish experience.
Ride MZs, then nobody cares about recovery anyway.

Ahh, disposable motoring. I like that idea.
