Title: weekend debrief
Post by: Steve Lake on September 21, 2010, 01:21:30 PM
I havn't really done much on the bike this year...I did manage to get to the 'Fenman Classic' bike show on August bank holiday, and it was the usual riot of noise (mainly rock & heavy metal) fumes (mainly burgers and castrol R) and bikes just about every bike you can imagine...it's always a good show....and FREE.
So, figured I'd get to another bike show in Norwich on sunday....#1 son decided he'd join me, as did his neighbour (she had only passed her test in June, and shows the signs of being a very good rider)....so we made our way to norwich and found 'THE BOUNDARY' pub, which has a huge car park and garden, met at the entrance by a sign saying NO CARS TODAY, promising I thought, also at the entrance was a guy who asked us if we were 'show' bikes....'no mate, just watchers', 'pity' he said 'park in front of the pub', 'where's the show bikes..I asked.....'there arn't any yet boss, was hoping you were!'
Bu55er....5 or 6 bikes parked in front of the pub, no bikes to look at (apart from ours) beer costing a kings ransom, and the burgers looking very sad, stayed an hour, thats as long as i could drag my pint out, and still no bikes to look at....what a washout....I was beginning to look forward to seeing the mother-in-law later in the day!
It was always going to be mainly milwaukee tractors.....but i'm not averse to admiring some of the outstanding engineering those guys employ.....but i left at 1.30 and ther was bu55er all.....

On Saturday did a brilliant hundred miles plus around the Peak District looking for a possible venue for a MonoConnection Rally next year. The weather was excellent, and taking in the more obscure areas meant that other traffic was minimal. As soon as plans are finalised I'll let folks know where; hoping to firm it all up in the next few weeks. The date has been set for 22-24 July 2011.

Sunday was spent tidying up the garden and gathering the last of the summer vegetable crop. I was especially pleased with my chillies, having ben fairly successful with six different varieties- ranging from hot to "Oh, my God!". There was also a glut of tomatoes which will be processed for the freezer over the next few days as there are only so many tomato sandwiches you can eat. Have also started readying my bees for the winter; don't really need to do much (as they know more than I do), and checking the combs they have plenty of food to tide them over. Any honey they don't eat will be on my toast next Spring.

Hopefully I'll get the head back for my RS this week after SEP Engineering have given it the once for knackered exhaust studs and rockerbox cover threads. Just the sort of project needed for these darker autumn nights - can't wait!

Cheers for now

Does "Oh, my God!" refer to heat or size. ;D
