Dont cut a chain off a bike untill you've checked that the owner has ordered the correct length chain !

And did the said owner have a face like this?

Another lesson- Don't put your hand on the burner of a camping stove you only turned off one minute before. It hurt like hell so I ran into the house and got a freezer pack out of the freezer and slapped my finger on that for half an hour. This deadened the pain nicely, but you know when your hand warms up after being frozen and you get painful pins and needles? Well times the pain by five and you will have an idea of how it felt when I took my hand off the pack  :(

Yes, yes, I'm an idiot.

Guess why you're supposed to wrap frozen stuff in a towel or similar before applying it to skin....? To prevent freeze burns! Even treating yourself you should remember that one of the first rules of first aid is to avoid/prevent further injury!
Back of the class GC  ::) ;)
(hope it has improved anyway!)

Well, to be fair the injury has been pretty trouble-free today so I'm fairly happy that what I did improved matters, but your point has been logged away in the old Carrick injury-response file for future burn 'moments'.

First aid treatment for burns.....run under COLD tap for at least 10 minutes

Indeed, though many forget it doesn't need to be hammering, the idea is to thoroughly cool the area, not create a non freezing cold injury(!)

Ice is normally applied to sprains/strains where as mentioned earlier it shouldn't be applied directly, I imagine it makes an adequate substitute though if running water is unavailable for whatever reason. I still find it slightly amazing that it took us 'till the 1940's to work out that cooling burns is a good thing mind you!

Butters not for burns, its for friction - aka 'Last Tango'.

Well thank you very much. There was I about to cram a couple of toasted slices down to soak up the Chateau Neuf der Plonk and now it's a walk to the kebab shop or wait until the bacons ready to go in the morning  :(  ;D

I'm sorry Richard but I don't understand the Last Tango in Paris remark, could you please fully explain what it's all about? Is it some sort of film about cooking or perhaps dairy product manufacture?

LOL  ;) :D

As it happens my home town was the only city in the UK to ban the film at the time of its release. Just to add to our shame one of the censor committee members was a blind woman!
