When i am not on my xbr i may ride something a little faster and may accidentally exceed the speed limit.
Can anyone recommend a detector that works? Can you get ones that warn you about mobile cameras? ???
Cheers
John

GPS systems (sat nav) will tell you where camera are including known van sites. You can get laser detectors for camera vans but lasers lock on to you in 0.3 of a second up to a km away. I believe you can still get laser jammers whilst not illegal to fit would be illegal to use.
-
And last time I looked laser jammers didn't work anyway. Remember when the truckers thought that carrying lots of dangling CDs would block the lasers and it actualy helped them ?
Radar detectors are also illegal.
GPS will only warn you about known sites prior to its programming, and are unreliable at best when it comes to the mobile sites.
So what you will have to do is build a new bike out of black light absorbent carbon fibre and a ceramic engine - the StealthBike. And I still don't know what you would have to do to avoid having yourself done by a standard Volvo and ability to read a number plate.

Aye John,
This site should keep you occupied for aeons!

Remember, getting caught by a speed camera is a failure of your observation. ;)
If you can't read the road well enough to spot a bright yellow box on a 6' stick you might be travelling too fast to see other hazards. Coppers, on the whole, make themselves bl00dy obvious nowadays as part of their 'road safety camera' initiatives. I remember when I was a nipper, the bu99ers would hide behind lamp posts and point a radar gun at you >:( Nearly killed one when he jumped out to stop me!

I don't know what planet you're on Pat. ??? I don't know where to start with your comments or whether I can be bothered. >:(
They still hide, still park behind walls and still set up vans in high value low risk places for the purposes of collecting maximum revenue.
'road safety camera' initiatives' Road safety?? Ha...my arse!!

F**k 'em all. Buy an Enfield and eliminate the worries about getting caught speeding. ;D
-
Still legal in WA , but cross the border into SA and see what happens WOOOOOwOOOOOOWWWWWOOOOOOWOOOO.
-
Lasers are tricky, radar guns however can be fooled, you just need to present a smaller radar picture than the stuff nearby/behind you ;)

Thanks for the input guys-
I just got caught while driving my Astra with a van (apparantly) while I was trying to get onto and crossing traffic near QMC in Nottingham. I have just done the Drivetech course to avoid getting 3 points- and to be fair they do give compelling stats to slow people down
Hit someone at 20- 4% chance of killing them
Hit someone at 30-10% chance of killing them
Hit someone at 35-50% chance of killing them
Hit someone at 40-80% chance of killing them
I have slowed down in urban areas to the limit.
Yes I can see a large yellow box and have sat nav to see the fixed ones. It's the bloomin' vans and radars that are a pain
Any makes of ones for sale?

So I'll have to be doing 50 to make sure.

The counter argument to "they're just revenue gathering", is that only those who choose to break a law (however innapropriate the law may seem) are those who suffer, so why is it wrong that they, as lawbreakers, should pay?
I have six points on my license and paid a large fine because a relative "forgot" to include me on insurance, I was told I was covered and had no reason to disbelieve it, turned out I wasn't and it cost me as I had broken the law.. it may not seem fair, but it's correct.

In Germany they ban you for a week the first time you run a red light, a month the second and so on. After a week on the peasant wagon re-offending is almost zero. Now I wonder why UK gov didn't do that?

Buses? Our dear old Boris has a pile of those bendy ones up for sale at some point in the near future. Guaranteed to lose passenger fares, knock cyclists off and cause traffic mayhem...

Get yourself an Inforad. They use the PocketGPSWorld database, which is the best around, and includes mobile sites.
There are bike and car versions - I have the small K1 - not much bigger than a USB stick.
