Title: Chairman says hello
Post by: guest7 on May 01, 2010, 07:02:41 PM
Been away for a while (in virtual terms at least). Also been having a bit of a biking break. My new(ish) status as a leisure biker isn't agreeing with me and to be honest I haven't been at all bothered about riding for a couple of months now. Having said that, I am looking forward to the NW200 this month and Simon and I have booked our ferries.

I'm sure things will perk up when I get back on the bike.

I have talked with the organisers of a classic show to be held here in Cardiff on May 9th and I have agreed to honour the commitment we made when RobG booked a stand a few months ago. Rob has been too busy to sort this out, but I've firmed up 3 bikes and just need one more to fill the stand.

I haven't been too busy, I've had plenty of time.

Nobody else gave a toss, so neither did I.

Rob.

Nice to hear from you. Same here, the Bonneville hasn't really turned a wheel for anything "fun" between coming back from Germany and this weekend. A change as they say is as good as a rest. Really enjoyed the weekends activities despite the "America" thing and now looking forwards to holidays in June. The urge to ride always comes back on some nice day when you've some place to go that'll be more fun on the bike and it'd be boring if you we just kept doing the same things for the sake of it.

Enjoy your trip.

Andy

GC, good to hear you are still lurking around here  :) I too am having a breather from motorised two wheels, though I have to admit it is not entirely deliberate! Would you believe my insurance company shipped the bike to Surrey for estimate/repair?!?!?  :o ??? Still awaiting the results of their estimate  >:(
Mind you, I picked up a bargain Giant OCR4 the other day (virtually unused but having been subject to an upgrade frenzy  8) ) so I can't complain too much  ;D

Jethro, Mark, are the fuel prices that bad down there?  :o  ;)
(Mind you, I had to pay £1.29.9 / litre on the motorway the other week and that was upsetting enough  :'( )

Anything they send away for assessment comes back a write off!!

They'll take about £300+ for sending it away then, hey presto, it's not worth repairing!!

Anyway, we have a mini standette at the Classic Bike (http://www.realclassic.co.uk/ridesfiles/vjmcpreview2010.html)  show being held in Whitchurch High Scool here in Cardiff on Sunday May 9th. Come along and say hello, it's looking to be a nice show with lots of bikes and a good spread of ages/types.

My GB500 will be there, looking much nicer than many of you will remember from its previous outings. Warren is bringing his XT660 thingy and RobG has kindly agreed to let us use his nice little CB250RS. We have one more space to fill, but if nothing turns up then I have said that Rob can put the VF500 that he's trying to sell on the stand with a for sale sign.

Cheers

Lord knows what it was, at "Chairmans Discretion" I think, At least as mine are all British or Italian and I had had a few Anti Brit remarks from the VJMC organisers, so I could understand why mine were persona non grata, yours was Japanese I think, did we not own it once? never mind.....

No offence intended to anyone who didn't get an offer to show bikes at the show. It was a real rushed job and once I'd got the first three bikes then I stopped thinking about having stuff for the stand and go on with sorting out the details. Furry, I was told that you were going to the Thundersprint that weekend and that's why I didn't ask you to show a bike. Plenty of Brit stuff there, as it happens.

Jethro, I have a guilty confession, I have to admit I thought you were joking when you offered the CG...  :-[ :-[ :-[ I guess it turns out I'm as size-obsessed as the next biker.

There were no free tickets to offer to club members as they organisers were restricting them to entrants only and not (as at Stafford) giving out a bundle to clubs.

Here's how the stand looked

My GB (work in Progress)

Warren's XT660

Rob's CB250 attracted lots of interest

A good result for a very rushed job, if I say so myself.

In case anyone is wondering the VF500 was there as a favour to Robg because he wanted to sell it (which he did).

One of the highlights of the show was meeting a bloke who owned a spoked wheel XBR. When he described the bike I had the joy of telling him that I knew its ex-owner and I had once crashed it on the access road at Pembrey circuit... I'm guessing it didn't make his day  ;)
