Watched for the second time last night.
Total relaxation, chill, charm, people, dynamite, elephants and steam locomotives along with Indian 'thumpettes' at their best.
Sod the rain, hords on the roads in 4x4's, towing excresant, bling, gin palaces. See the pukka stuff at "Snooty Ooty"! ;D ;D ;D
The Nilgiri (http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00qzzlm/Indian_Hill_Railways_The_Nilgiri_Mountain_Railway/)
Oh and don't forget the Greene King IPA or a gin sling to get the 'atmosphere, ambience'! 8) 8);D
Toodle pip, Bill.

Hi Bill....wasn't it just great!.....I'm angling swmbo towards a holiday which will endeavour to take in one of these railway trips, there's also a fantastic railway on new zealand's south island i hear.

absoulutly brillaint, its great to see somewhere in the world where the old values still exist.
i'd happily throw it all in and spend the rest of my life working on that railway, add some cobra beer and an enfield and i'd be the happiest man alive!

I have done the very last journey shown from Delhi to Shimila. Its 6 hours up a slight incline and then 6 more on a mountain railway. Just to top it off when we got there it was 14 days on a Royal Enfield in the mountains.
Fancy a go book here

its a part of a series of indian railway films all by the same team and narrated by the same guy. ive found them to be some of the best documentry tv ive ever seen anywhere. good old auntie beeb. one was called bombay railway and the other was monsoon railway iirc. its like looking into the close past. india is one of the places i want to see and experience before i die!!

Missed the TV doc but wanted to join the discussion, just got back from Darjeeling and the seven hour narrow gauge train ride that shares the road with the jeeps, scooters, dogs, cows, people all the way from Siliguri to Darjeeling, the train was slow enough to jump off, run ahead, take photos then jump back on again, I thoroughly recommend a trip to India and recommend as much rail travel as possible!
