Got stopped in my van today for not wearing a seatbelt. The young WPC came up to my window and her first question was;
DO....YOU....SPEAK....ENGLISH?

Make sure you leave some sort of marker, don't want them building the visitor centre in the wrong place in 700 years time.

No I was lucky, I answered "Żaden, tylko może mówić język polski, proszę mówią mnie co zrobił nieprawidłowy" and she pointed to my seatbelt and waved me on. ;D
She must have felt sorry/frightened of my twisted up Bell's Palsy face. She explained it was for my own safety that I wear one and that the fine had increased from £30 to £60 and there was a campaign on, then she ran a check on my van and waved me on, couldn't believe my luck.
Teach me for driving a van.

Yes. Bosworth is actually a nice break from some very decent roads. Walk *****y miles then you find out the historians have decided to move the battle! :o

I haven't visited the Bosworth site, but I'm guessing the location change may not be welcomed by sundry 'Battle Tearooms' and B&Bs. let alone the visitor centre that is now some 2kms from the site ;)

With a nod to the god of thread drift, can I tell you all about one of the nicest little stories that I've heard in years?
Stuart Wilson, an archaeology graduate, here in Wales, became interested in the history of the town of Trelleck. It was a place of major importance to the area and often described as such in medieval texts, but the modern town bears no marks of this past. It's puzzled experts for years. This graduate, despite not actually having a job in archaeology, started to do his own research and he became convinced that the original town was sited some miles away.
He started some digs, on his own, in the fields he had identified as a likely spot and hit some interesting remains. The one field came up for auction and with the help of friends and family he bought it (despite the landowner taking advantage of his enthusiasm and hiking up the price). Since then he has been working the site with the help of volunteers and he does seem to have found the remains of the original town, thus rewriting the history books.
He was the subject of a very good Radio 4 documentary and the first section made me laugh, the presenter arranged to meet Stuart at his place of work, a toll booth on the second Severn Crossing :D

They have moved Bosworth... Bugger I will have to go back - maybe that is why Lord Wotsisname did not weigh in on Richard's side, condemning him to defeat and us to a Welsh King and the Tudors. Maybe the Lord was trying to remember which field h was supposed to be in, and it is his papers that have laid the history, now revised?

Oh, it's dead easy to get lost down there. You'd be amazed how often I'd set off for some boring *******s at MIRA and been right through the battlefield without even realising, only regaining my sense of direction in the Millers at Sibson during the second or third pint ;D
Half the battles in history were decided by somebody accidentally turning up somewhere, so having everyone 2 km off course probably just made things easier.
