Title: New Purchase
Post by: guest7 on February 08, 2010, 09:42:56 PM
I have just taken delivery of Kirriepete's lovely Craven topbox:

I have been after one for a while and we came to a mutually agreeable figure and it arrived (to my wife's chagrin) in the post this morning.

I should really go straight off and sort out the paypal payment...  :D

Aye GC,

Whilst not wishing to get involved in a 'domestic', I found this definition (see below) and wondered if you were trying to coerce your wife into one of this sites other current 'threads'? Basque wearing! You, having chosen the wrong material!  8)

"Chagrin is literally the cutting pain produced by the friction of Shagreen leather; in its figurative sense, it varies in meaning, denoting in its lower degrees simply a state of vexation, and its higher degrees the keenest sense of mortification."

Surely, vexation might describe the mushroom cloud above your wifes head!  ;D

Duck!!!!!!!!!!!! Swift exit and my respects!

Old sharky!

Glad it got there in one piece - did the pong make it across the border intact?

Don't feel too sad for me, I've now acquired (and nailed onto Norman The Valiant) this bad boy:

.... going to take some work to get the same level of curry/chinese/cat wee sniffs into this one, but I'm man enough!

Enjoy!

It arrived beautifully packed and I opened the parcel in fron of SWMBO. She said "That's pretty" but when I opened it up she said "bloody hell that's horrible". Make of that what you will  :D :D :D

Now for the one thorny issue... can I take the stickers off?

Philistine!  It's an underlying law of the cosmos that all old fibreglass top-boxes MUST be adorned with stickers proudly displaying their history.  Check out this tale for proof:

Take the stickers off .... indeed!

OOOOh! New cuckoo in the nest?  ;D

If only the weather would be a little less parkie around the Balearics, in our neck of the woods. ???

I'll keep my 'shell likes' open in case somebody is looking for one.  ;)

All the best, Bill.

Quick update - the topbox rot has set in already.  Remember that nice clean Kappa box somewhere back up there ^^ somewhere?  As of last night it gained the first (of many?) stickers:

... and I've just found a Breaking Point one in my den, so that's going on shortly.  Will it ever get to the condition of the one in the tale?  Only time will tell .......
