As we seem to be spending a lot of time concerned with our sartorial elegance or otherwise and I have resolved my boots issue, what about the next step ?
Trouble is, I can't wear wool next to my skin - being a sensitive sort of chap.
I have tried all sorts. Cotton/synthetic inners with a woolen pair over. Goretex, sealkinz outers.
At least I can risk my new boots without a goretx sock as well but what about keepig my toes warm eh ? |Without wool ?
And the collective wisdom is..................

I rely on a handcrafted pair of mink-lined undershoes, a snip at £765 from a little Saville Row place I know.
More seriously, thin thermal socks under a comfy pair of boot socks. I wear Dickies boot socks that you can buy in packs of three (pairs) all over the place.

Dickies Socks ?
Is that the same sort as sailors wear, and end up a little crusty ?

Well, I just wear ordinary M&S socks under my Altbergs (Hogg 4 season). Never a cold tootsy yet, and that's after riding in temperatures down to -5 or so.
Maybe I've just acclimatised too well to Scottish winters....

I was gifted a pair of Snap On work socks for christmas, as my brother in law works for them. Very comfy and warm socks. Probably the best I own. Slightly less bulky than wool, but thicker than a normal terry sock. I'm not sure how you'd source some though, sorry.

Can't help as it's 100% hand knitted wool here. My mother in law does a great line in socks that come above the knees and waistcoats that come well below areas that really should be saved from frostbite if she wants grand children. It's great to be able to have stuff like this made effectrively to order ;D the fit IMHO is as important as the material. Make sure a second pair doesn't compress the first.
