Title: XBR Brake pads - recommendations?
Post by: SteveC#222 on January 16, 2010, 06:08:22 PM
Just taken the caliper off the XBR to free off a dragging brake ( not been used much lately) and what I thought would be a 10 minute job is going to need a bit more work.  One off the pistons is seized and about to meet Mr G Clamp and the pads are getting well shot.

Any particular recommendations for pads? I currently have Brembo's fitted but I would be interested to know what others use before ordering some more.

Cheers

Can't speak with any authority but I just used sintered EBC types and had no problems.
I think the main thing is to get the pistons/caliper etc free and working properly (as you are doing), use a fresh hose and fluid and after that it seemed as good as any other similar sized disc I've used.

But as I said, I'm no authority on the subject!  ;)

Wee Arfur is running on EBC GG grade pads with a stainless braided front hose - enough braking to get the whole front end twisting under load (note to self: ditch the cable ties and get the front mudguard/brace bolted in place properly).

You're welcome.

I've used EBCs with no problems... I used to get great stoppies out of my first GB500 with EBCs  ;)

A couple of years ago I bought a lot of XBR spares on Ebay (in the good old days when it was cheap) and I have a stock of various brand pads and brake shoes on the shelf. I've never had an XBR that didn't stop well so I've never been too worried about fitting tricky pads or whatnot.
