Title: Which head light
Post by: Mark on December 09, 2009, 04:23:08 PM
Looking to purchase a tidy head light, been looking at the Petzl Tikka 2 and the 2 plus. Anyone got experience of these or any other recommendations?

Ta, Mark.

I had a Petzl bought for me when they first came out :),great bits of kit but very over priced in my mind :(,
these days any L.E.D based head torch is just as good as the next,i got one from ALDI a couple of years ago for £4.99 :D,its still works great, they are very bright the batteries last a long time and they are small enough to stick in your pocket without it being uncomfortable :).
the Petzl bought for me is now dead >:(,when you think about it the amount of times its used and the duration its used for these things should last forever, unfortunately that's not the case :(

The one that Steve Dalby has got is fantastic, even better than the multiple LED 'uns we've all been using for the last few years.

We were walking up to the pub at Llanthony recently and we all noticed that his head torch was waaaaay brighter than all ours. The following weekend my brother turned up with one for my birthday. It's this one (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ring-Cyba-Lite-Pro-Sport-Headlight/dp/B0011DUTCO/ref=sr_1_19?ie=UTF8&s=lighting&qid=1260396316&sr=8-19)

It's the same as Steve's but branded under a different name... I'm guessing there are any number of different companies selling the same Chinese-made item.

The light is absolutely fantastic, it really does illuminate much much much much better than my little LED Petzl.

Yeah, no more falling in puddles for me! ;D
They really are so much more improved and I use mine when working in lofts etc. Now lives in my van at this time of the year. I intend to get another just for the biking kit.

Er, "No Steve!", it will just act as a beacon so we'll know which river/lake/puddle/fish pond/septic tank etc. you've fallen into. As long as you keep your head above water we'll find you. To be on the safe side always wear a life jacket when on your bike and especially in bed!

Try Alpkit.com in Buxton and their headlight.  Brilliant, just arrived and for the price the best of several.  I use a Petzl at work and this is just better.

Thanks for the input lads but I managed to get a good deal on a Petzl Tikka plus 2 @ £14.99 so gone with that. Half the price I've seen then at.

As a useless afterword, I bought mine from Woolworths (RIP) for £4.99 and it is still on the first set of batteries and that is after living wild for a week in Scotland with it being my only source of light at night. Marvellous invention, these head lights.

Last year I renovated three old Carbide Caplamps.  I used to use them for cavng but bought these to tart up for camping.  I will try to bring one to the Dragon for a demonstration of Victorian technology.

Looks tasty. I like Alpkit, they've been knocking out some great stuff at good prices for a few years now. I ended up on their mailing list and it's always way too tempting.
