A rich Arabian gentleman died leaving his 17 camels to be divided amongst his 3 sons as follows:
- son 1 gets 1/2 of them
- son 2 gets 1/3 of them
- son 3 gets 1/9 of them
All the camels have to be shared out, and none can be killed or chopped up etc.
They puzzle over this for days, arguing about how to do it. Then their uncle rides up on his camel, and hearing of their problem, laughs and says it's easy to solve.
How? First correct answer gets a link to a picture of a ferocious hairy animal chewing on a dead lamb!

They form an ownership consortium each with the stated stake in the animals, the left over going to the poor.

1/2 + 1/3 + 1/9 = 17/18 => Uncle gives them his camel, making 18, they take their share of 17 (9 for the son 1, 6 for son 2, 2 for son 3) and he disappears into the sunset on the leftover one, which was probably his one anyway!
