Title: Ooh, its running again!
Post by: guest24 on November 14, 2009, 04:52:10 PM
My SRX400 is running again! Last ran June 2008, and given bed rest as it required some work. Out of curiosity I charged the battery yesterday and pressed the button. The old beast only started, didn't it!! :D  Stopped shortly afterwards as the petrol in the carbs ran out and the stuff in the tank was not coming through. Awesome result though!

So, wallet is now out  :'(  and necessary bits are being purchased. Just got 2 new throttle cables off fleabay and will be posting my CV slider off to NRP for a new diaphragm. Current diaphragm is a tad stiff and once the slide is rising past half-way, it doesn't want to stop and the revs rise on their own against a closed throttle..eek. Just need a new front sprocket, oil & filter change and then a road test. Oh, and cure the rust problem in the fuel tank, again. grrr.

Will you be using this as a winter hack rather than the MT03?

Ian, yes it has and will - many thanks!!

As regards a winter hack, nah. I think it will be pot lock in the morning as to which key comes out the pocket first...haha.

However fixing is going to be a bit of a struggle as the fuel tank has gone a bit rusty inside again and thats after Andy fixed it for me 2 years ago. I suppose leaving old fuel to fester is never good. Wonder if fleabay will ever produce a good example sans rust...?

My tank is in lovely condition externally and feels solid all over underneath even with a good amount of tapping with a screwdriver handle ie no dull crunchy sounds!

It is a monoshock of 3VN1 1990 vintage, in black. There should be a couple of photos appearing in the pictures section of it running with its fuel tank bypass device attached...

What colour are your tanks and how much?
