Title: Weekend Debrief
Post by: robG on November 08, 2009, 10:17:32 PM
Thought I'd get in early this time.

Not much to report as work scuppered best laid plans.

Worked Saturday, thus this left Sunday for R&R. Had planned to go West young man and visit Richard and Steffan. However required to stay on in work on Friday which meant those tasks penciled in for Friday afternoon and evening went by the board therefore were still outstanding on Sunday.
Despite this , went to local cafe on Sunday morning and bumped into Jules and Viv along with Furry and Molly.Good selection of motorcycles to be viewed. Spent afternoon tidying garage and house.Tinkered with Rs ready for the winter commute and noted a few jobs on the Bonnie.

Little bit of care applied to one's Rs now, will prevent tears later. A squirt here and there prevents corrosive build up and increases the life of the components.

Uncle Bob's Penetration Fluid works it's way into every crack and crevice, again! Apply liberally before, during and after you ride..........

The Tenere performed faultlessly ;D

Thank you Boyd.
Obviously you've been preparing your Rs along the same lines as myself. As our respective Rs's are getting a bit long in the tooth, a bit of preventative maintenance will go a long way.Indeed I tend to give it a good check over once a week, wash it off and apply a liberal coating of lube.

I'm looking forward to using my Rs during these fast approaching long winter nights and have just ordered a new battery for mine.

...................and yes it was raining most of the time but a really good turnout and good fun. The guy on the Blue Tenere showed us that they crash really well and don't damage too much! :o

Great photos Steve, looks like it was a blast. Nice to see the TC marquee getting aired too  ;)

A few of those photos showed one of my favourite trail rider's foibles, gratuitous and unnecessary standing on pegs on flat terrain:

Each to their own and all that, but that's what your suspension is for. Trail riding is tiring enough without standing up all the time  :D

Cheers

Friday night was spent at a leaving do for the office manager with drinking starting at 4pm and the curry kicking in at 7. Funny things, office parties, I mean you only know each other because you work together and that's no guarantee of friendship, but it turned out to be a cracking night.

Saturday had me up early to get my run out the way before I set too swapping the swingarm over on the VX. Everything came apart easily enough and the sprayed-up second hand one went in sweet as a nut. Grief came when I had to re-fit the rear calliper though. The previous owner had sheered off the bleed nipple and bodged a repair by aralditing a bolt in the hole! :o God only knows how he bled the system. After some serious head scratching I tapped out the calliper to take an 8mm bleed nipple (should be a 7mm one) and have stuffed another bolt in the hole while I wait the items arrival from ebay. By using my finger I've managed to get most the air out and get some sort of rear brake for now. ::)

Sunday was birpyday! ;D Spoilt rotten by loving wife & offspring to include a full monty breakfast, trips to the pub, cake and wine.

Back to earth with a bump today, but who cares, I've a good weekend in the bank.

Took a weekend off biking (practical not theory), had the use of an apartment in Tenby.

Got there 7pm friday and got drunk with Capt Morgan after a few drinks around the town. Saturday out for a bit of sightseeing in the morning then to the pub to watch end of Swansea v Cardiff by default as they wouldn't put the Australian game on til it finished then watched the game.

Back to reality today, dug out my handlebar muffs and new heated grips, wondering what bike to put them on(noticably colder today), and changed fork oil .

As an aside, has anyone else stayed in Tenby for New Years Eve? It's mental. It was once voted in the top five UK NYE's venues and I wouldn't argue with that.

Re Tenby.  My idea of hell. I once got called to a fight there that had been going on for three hours by the time I arrived.  And the beer is rubbish.  Over rated.

That only gets the air out upto the calliper (duh). Getting it out of the calliper itself without a bleed nipple is bloody hard. Trust me I know. >:(

Its works if the banjo is near the top or you take the caliper off and arrange it so it is.

Rotate bike so the banjo is at the top, prop with wood or Squirrel Minors for a nicght and then bleed...

Remove caliper from fork leg, remove pads, pump piston almost all the way out, rotate caliper so banjo is at the highest point, gently push piston back in while watching reservoir level, watch bubbles come out of reservoir.

Seemples!
