This is my first visit to the forum in a while, which is probably not what you'd expect to hear from the chairman of the club.
In a nutshell I had a bit of a 'moment' and decided to withdraw from all club activity for a while. I won't go into the reasons, but I'm feeling better about stuff now and it's time to get back in touch with the club.
In fact I hardly even used the internet over the last five weeks or so and it has to be said that my home life has improved because of it. ::)
To make matters worse, I have only ridden twice in the last two months :o
An absence from biking has been good for me in some ways. Now that I don't use the sidecar outfit for work I am having to think about what I want from my biking and the short answer is quality. Soon I will be selling the majority of my XBR spares stock and several of my motorcycles, including my recently acquired CB500. What I want to end up with is a garage I can walk around and three decent bikes, not numerous scrappers.
Funny how life changes and all that eh?

Good to have you back :) Did you get the parcel? I trust you found at least one article that was new to you! ;)
-
Yep, cheers for that, the mags were great (Smudge asked me to send him a Godfreys race suit that I was selling. Unfortunately it didn't fit so he returned it along with some mags featuring intersting thumper articles).

Look me out a half decent tank matey and set a starting price ;)

Don't suppose you've got a rear wheel with a non-oval hub in there? I don't insist on spokes, I quite like Comstars (is there some form of aversion therapy available?)
-
Wondered were you were, have not been into Cardiff else would have come round and asked.
Missed much - not a lot, a few emails maybe.
Welcome back

Welcome back, Graham
Was beginning to wonder where you'd gone. Looking forward to seeing what 3 bikes you narrow it down to.

As Im a relative newcomer to the Thumper Club (but not to biking..passed my test in 1970!) I dont "know" many people on here but having read your thread..I do understand the sort of thing you went through...Youre not Alone
Anyway "Welcome back" and hope to get to know you better in the days to come! :)
Best Regards

Cheers for that, I'm not sure my absence was due to any dramatic reasons, but it was good to leave things alone for a while and it's nice to have a bit more focus on what I want and how to get it.
At the minute I mostly want an espresso so I'm off to the kitchen, toodlepip. ;)

I could well be interested in the XL front end you have and the CG
All depending on the folding green stuff and Mrs Rog looking the other way

I'll PM you. As an aside (and I'm talking to all of you out there), I have a nice old-school Rukka (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300352108799&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT) jacket for sale on Ebay, a club member can have it for the start price.

As a little aside......I'm guessing that a lots of us lot are of a 'certain age' and probably started biking in the '70's
( apologies to our younger/older members here...bare with me...)
Now as I remember if you were a 'real biker' in those distant days you HAD to have the BLJ - black leather jacket, preferably with tassles ? Now if you were really posh you may have got yourself a Lightning or Monza jacket from Lewis Leathers?
Well I've been reading that after a 10 year absence, Lewis Leathers are back producing the same styles that many of us remember, so I've just had a look how much a nice shiny new Lightning jacket would cost me ...brace yourselves..... £625!!!!!!!!! yes SIX HUNDRED AND TWENTY FIVE POUNDS!!!...bleedin' hell is this a bike jacket or a fashion statement!!! :o :o :o :o
The moral of this story is, if you had a Lewis jacket in those early years that has now erm...'shrunk' with age and no longer fits, get it on Ebay .....it probably worth a fortune!!!

You're not wrong, 60s Lewis Leathers are selling for very keen money, especially to japanese buyers.
Cheers

I see what you mean!!
If anyone is looking for a good , cheapish jacket it's worth looking on Ebay for 'Hein Gericke jackets' - their warrentry department often sell returns there for not a lot of cash - OK, you have to check what is wrong with them - obviously if the proofing has failed they may not be worth the bother, but often it's just missing poppers or very minor tears that are easily fixed.

I have just paid £80 for a HG Goretex jacket that should have been well over £300 from their warrenty dept on ebay. They are graded from 1-10,I went for a decent one rather than the cheapest one that I could get.So far I am pleased with it.Time will tell.
As for the Rukka jacket,I bought one from the NEC bike show in 1987.I would buy it but I suspect it might be a bit too small for my lardy belly these days.

Alas, I don't even have one for my own XBRs anymore, I gave the last one to my brother.

This ones' on Ebay at £10 with 3 days to go - worth keeping an eye on.

You know someone handy with fibreglass could make a nice little earner knocking a few seat cover copies out! Surely couldn't be that hard ?

Too flippin right.

Just had a look how much it went for - bearing in mind it was rather manky and needed a proper respray ....£65!!!!!!! Someone SERIOUSLY needs to start making these, you'll make a fortune!!!
