It's his age... we're lucky he was that close, in his world it's still 1969 ;) :D :D

Incidentally Bruce, the bloke who is pictured pushing his BSA/Steib up the slope on the front page of my website got in touch with me, he was very keen to know where I'd got the photo from.

Jethro tells me that the tickets are here. That's myself, Jules and Furry sorted, along with Jethro of course. Pat and Richard have tickets.

Anyone else venturing to Dragon Country? { Apart from Bruce of course, that's a given  :) }

Still waiting for my ticket  :(

It was a bit of a shocker when Pat and Richard said they'd already rec'd theirs when we were sat in the pub last saturday night. I sent my cheque off on tuesday in the end.

Why am I getting excited about camping in February in North Wales?? When you say it out loud, it's sort of wrong, but in my head it makes me smile ;D

My ticket arrived yesterday and my brother's batch (including BJ's) turned up today. Phew  ;)

I'm staying in Rhayader on the Thursday and Llanberis on the Friday, I'm going to make a real long weekend of it. If I can persuade Sue to drive up with the kids I might also manage Sunday night in Conwy with our friends Pete and Stephanie.

Giving this one a miss I'm afraid.

I'm heading for Germany the week before, so wouldn't be popular at home if I disapeared a week later into North Wales.

Still, good news, when I don't go it usually turns out not to be Angelsey!

Got my ticket and accommodation at Llanberis booked.
Attendees for the bunkhouse so far are:-

Graham (Blue Honda 500 thingy)
Simon (Blue XT660Z Ten)
Terry (Blue BMW GS 650)
Steve (me) Khaki XT660Z Ten)
Pat ( Pink Suzuki 800 thingy)
Martyn (Blue DR750 Suzi)
Tricky + 1 (White XT660Z Ten + ? suspect multi)
Mark (Blue XT660Z Ten)

Garet and Liz (double room) (Anybody's guess?)

I recon we can call that full and then we can send GC into the other double room so his 'sawing' doesn't keep us awake! ;D

I suppose we can accommodate more bodies but thet will be sharing with GC or on the floor!!! :o

Snore? me?  :o I'm offended  ;) :D

I'm looking forward to it, a nice wander around those Llanberis climbing shops, one of which serves a ferocious espresso, a nice meal in Petes Eats and a 10 metre walk to the pub opposite. All good stuff.

Charming! It's not pink, it's maroon and it's not a 'thingy' either. ::)

While we're on the subjecy of colour.... When did the XT'thingy' become Khaki?? I thought it was beige ;D

Will it be working by then??

Will possible non-dragonistas be allowed? I'm betting I'll be catching up on housework and scrapeing salt off the Bonneville post elefant (hence no Dragon ticket), but I might get a pass out for the Friday if I manage to aquire sufficient beer/cheese/noodles/gin on my travels.

Pat, why not ride down to here, leave the bike in my garage, Mol will take us to the Curry and back, sleep here, yes there is a spare bed, then a gentle ride home in the morning to get ready for the Dragon.

Cheers for the offer Fury, but my thinking is more political. Wifey would probably throw a wobbly if I'm enjoying myself for 3 nights on the trot! I mean, that would never do!!

I'll be there for the scoff, just might have to sneak off a tad early for my beauty sleep that's all.

Very big cheers for the generous offer though. Very much appreciated. ;)

Probably means there are no facilities and you poo in the woods. ;D

Jethro will have to watch his jacket.  ;)

Seriously, it suggests a more traditional site, and I think mention is made of Capel Curig to illustrate this type of site rather than saying that's where the rally will be. Given the snow in recent years, this could mean a snowy Snowdonia based camp site  ;D rather than riding through the snow and then onto Anglesey.

To be honest guys, I hope the snow and ice bu99er off before the Dragon this year. Really don't fancy the VX on the slidey stuff, especially along the A roads of Mid Wales :'(

I'm with Gc and hope it's not on Anglesey. Perhaps for this and next year it will be in Snowdonia. Too much to hope it's at Beddgelert again, that really was a fine site in '08.
Personally, I'm hoping for snow again. I think Pat , that the problem with the VX is not the weight, but the wheelbase. It's a long bike and probably steers like the Titanic, which is made worse by the ice and snow, also a problem experienced by the Titanic.

I remember reading on another forum that the rally is unlikely to be held at Beddgelert again, something to do with ''complaints by incomers'' or something similar.I don't know if there is any truth in this.I agree with Rob,it was a cracking site.

Still no details in the post  :(

On the plus side, I have negotiated a big tub of beef stew for the saturday night, courtesy of my dad's cafe.

I also thought that if the Llanberis crowd want to save money then we can cook up a big spag bol or suchlike for the Friday night. The kitchen and lounge at the bunkhouse are well up to the job and it would give us more wonga for the funny little pub over the road.  ;)

Now that sounds good to me. We can get 'materials' from the Spar shop or bring stuff up. We need to cater for 11 persons and then just share the cost.

Not much of a cost for a big spag bol  ;)

Of course I would need to rustle up a veggie version for Liz, but that's easy enough.

If we agree on it then I will get Gareth to pick up a heap of mince from his tame butcher. As you say we can buy the rest of the ingredients from the local shop.

Cheers for that Richard. A nice ride for us Llanberis types in the morning then:

From Llanberis over Pen y Pass, on to Capel Curig then Betws y Coed, then up to the checkpoint. You couldn't have chosen a prettier run. Of course if the weather is bad enough to close Pen Y Pass the only option will be a fast slog along the A55 and then a drop down to the checkpoint... much less appealing.

Hi, just been talking to GC reference the directions. In my younger climbing/mountaineering days (Ok, OK A long time ago) I used to camp at a "woodland" site in this area, it was well known for the thinness of the soil cover over a layer of shingle and rocks. I suggest we should arm ourselves with some decent tent pegs and a hammer!! to allow for this possibility.

Furry

The soil level has probably risen by a few foot since then. ;)

Me too, thank god it's not Anglesey.

With the rally being so close to Conwy I might blag a bunk at my mate's place there and have a drink with him on sunday night, followed by an leisurely ride back on Monday.

Hi all,

Its official, I have opted to leave the DT400 or my XT500 at home and do this years Dragon on a 20 year old Honda C90, a four stroke single so technically a thumper :P, the old girl is a bit tired looking but passed the MOT yesterday.

A few hours to give her a bit of a clean up, fit the rack I bought on ebay and the handlebar muffs, load her up with all my kit and she is ready for the off on the Friday of the Dragon.

I am riding up from Pembrokeshire via Llandovery to meet my mate.  He is on his newly acquired for the Dragon CB250RS (which he will be selling after for about £600) and my other mate on his 36 year old Suzuki B120.  We are going to be like a trio of second rate Clarkson and Co ala Vietnam.

Anyone else fancy tagging along, we plan to leave the West End Cafe in Llandovery at about 10.30 on the Friday, speeds wont be breathtaking, I anticipate a 40-45mph cruising speed.  Compulsory Tea stops on route will also be order of the trip, aim to get to Bettws (Glan Aber) about 3ish. PM if anyone interested.

Look forward to meeting forum guys at the Dragon and sharing a beer.

See you soon

Will

Just a thought, why not bring along something snacky to share around on the Saturday night?

examples:
Salami
Beef jerky
Nibbles
Pork Pies
Pickled eggs
Cheese
Chilli vodka (not sure about that one)

If we all bring something along then we can have a veritable feast (and possibly indigestion).

Anyone up for wearing silly hats? If so then the sillier the better and I'll bring a prize along for dopiest headgear.

Woohoo, only a few days to go  ;D ;D

I'm looking forward to this year's rally, probably more so because it's one of the few bike events I will be getting to for a while. I'm hoping it's a rough site like Capel Curig used to be, it should deter a few of the 'badge-hunters' who have been turning up the last few years. I hope everyone remembers to bring their sidestand plates  ;)

All set for the off in the morning,  one slight hitch, me and my 2 mates have decided  this year to leave our usual steeds behind and go up on a C90 me, Suzuki B120 John, CB250RS Phil, and a late entry tagger alonger on a Velocette 200, Ash.

So whats the hitch  ??? Johns B120 needs new crank seals, ordered them turned up yeterday, went to fit them today, ooer wrong size.  New seals coming in the morning by 9am, fit in an hour load up and hopefully off by 10.30. Nothing like leaving things to last minute ::)

Due to this hiccup we are not going to go to Llandovery to meet Phil as planned, we are going to head up the coast and meet him in Aberaeron, a quick cuppa in the Celtic cafe, then on to Bettws via a few stops.  Hopefully be at the Glan Aber for around 5pm, just in time for a gargle or 2 and a liitle supper, followed by a bit more gargle.

Look forward to meeting you guys there and hope can join you for a beer or two.
