Title: Sad news
Post by: guest7 on May 19, 2009, 06:54:55 PM
I suspect that RobG is probably a bit too cut up to bring this up himself, but he lost his lovely German Shepherd Sam this morning.

Let me be the first here to say how sorry I am to hear the news. He was a lovely lump of a dog who made sure that I could never leave Rob's residence without dogslobber marks all over my crotch. Trust me when I tell you that Sam was big enough to insist on sniffing whatever he liked without fear of protest  :)

Rob, you have my sympathy. I lost my German Shepherd of 14 1/2 years just before xmas, 6 months on and I can't believe how much I still miss him.

I knew Sam was feeling his age but it still came as a shock when Kim told me this morning.
I popped in to see the Gunstones and the house seems twice the size without Sammy Dog,the large bear like creature slobbering around the place.
Having known Sam since he was a pup,and Dog Sat for Rob and Kim,it doesnt seem right not having a wet nose thrust in your crotch or being pushed to one side because you are in his way.

He will sadly be missed.

Heartfelt sympathy.....I know only too well the gap left when the most beligerant, loved, cosseted, dirty, noisy, smelly, delightful, demanding member of the family (for that is what they are) passes away.....but be reassured that he had the best possible life.....and knew it and loved you for it.

That's really sad news, condolences.

I've had dogs since I was a kid and I know places just won't seem right without him. Sounds like he had a good life, which I guess is about all you can ask for.

It'll be 6 months next week since I said goodbye to my pal Giz, and everything SteveL said to describe a loved dog fits the bill precisely, only she was mostly delightful and the best friend I could ever have asked for. I still have my 10-year old Staffie called Ellie and love her even more now in a daft sort of way.
All the best Rob & Co, cherish those memories of Sam.

Many thanks for all the kind words and thoughts .Sam was a wonderful member of our family, with a superb temperament and an impish sense of humour.I am very grateful that we shared our life with his ,all too short that it was . The old boy was as right as rain on the Monday morning ,but on our return that night all was not well .Tuesday morning saw our worst fears confirmed and there was nothing we could do .
He was a fine friend and companion to our Tom and took his duties as his protector very seriously, along with his unofficial position as partner in crime.Sam had his friends, and numbered Jethro , Graham , Jules, Furry and Molly amongst them and enjoyed their visits with much enthusiasm.

Our house seems so much bigger now and my time in the garage without my friend and chief mechanical engineer is a lot quieter .
I could go on and on .

We miss our bear such a lot ,Thank you again .
