Title: One for the sidecar boys
Post by: guest146 on May 12, 2009, 09:53:20 AM
Have a look at this. This chap is one of out drivers and made this himself. Powered by a 1700 ISSUSI diesel from an Astra and driving direct from the gearbox to the back wheel by just  one driveshaft. Although he used to be a mechanic its quiet a project.

"nine gallon fuel tank"  :o combine that with a diesel engine that won't even be trying and I suspect his range is exceptional!!

Awesome bit of work, now *that* is a winter rally outfit! Would love to see some pics minus bodywork to get a handle on how the back half is built.

Mega. Thanks  :)

mmmmmm

So has he used the drive shaft off the 'motor' to the 'bike' wheel, locked off the steering etc - guess this allows adjustment and a later fitting of rearwheel steer (ulp!) but is it driving the 'chair' wheel too?  Seems not, so would that mean sticking a spanner in the diff or something?

Hi No all you do is weld up the plannet wheels in the diff so it only turns on one side. I was away from work when he brought it round but i do know it drives direct to the rear wheel from the astra gearbox drivshaft.

i would have thought that a driven sidecar wheel with a diff would have been an advantage?

Would have thought so - but maybe there are problems in keeping it as a sidecar not a trike?  Or the reason the lump was up for use was damage to the gearbox?  Who knows

Don't forget that outfits generally require the sidecar wheel to be ahead of the rear wheel, not in line.

Do you know, I'd never noticed that before.  Hooray - there are still new things even at the age of 54!
