I've had a sniff of a Jawa and Velorex for sale locally and I think it might be a good price (£400ish).
The chair is (imho) the valuable bit as he's kept it in good condition. The outfit looks similar to this one (but with the chair on the other side obviously):

I think it's silver, I can't say for sure, haven't seen it for a year or so.
Just thought I'd let you know. As Richard Moore proved, these chairs look lovely on an XBR ;)

So a little like this very rare AWAJ and sidecar?

Some of us like two strokes. What condition is the bike in? Could well be tempted..............though it would be better on an MZ.

Having Had a Jawa/Velorex outfit they go remarkabley well for what they are !
Myself(pilot) and robG(passenger) did the '94 Dragon Rally on it.
Loaded up with our gear and a slab of beer it held 60mph quite nicely.
Stoping was interesting.....despite all 3 drum brakes on as hard as possible ;D
Pretty good in snow and mud too.
Good cheap intoduction to the art of charioteering !

The last time I saw it the condition was good. He only really uses it during the summer months to take his grandson out.
I'll chase him up and get some details and/or photos

Turns out my memory was faulty, it was the older chrome tank Jawa (W reg), although the chair is the same. Apparently it's a model they called the 'oilmaster'. He wants £500 for the outfit. Mail me if you want his phone number.

So would the brakes cope with the drop down my front drive?

"Apparently it's a model they called the 'oilmaster'. "

My Brother had a couple of those !
Both with chairs on.
He used to ride down from RAF Leuchars to Newport for the weekend when he had leave.
His pipe bowl packed pretty tight and turned upside down so he could have a smoke whilst riding.

I was itching to go for it(fond memrories of past ownership) but with all the bikes I've been bringing home lately I think that would have been the final nail as far as my marriage goes.
But because I need/want an outfit I have decided to try and get a chair on an MT350.
So I'd be interested in a smallish light sidecar and tips for suitably mounting it if anyone can help.

Someone local to me has a velorex body (like the one on the Jawa) that might be for sale cheap and Velorex chassis do come up on Ebay fairly often.
The Velorex is ideal for your bike as the chassis is lightweight and the larger wheel looks way better than a 10" one.
Having said that, Beeman's recent ponderings on using a trials chair highlighted another route: buy a trials chair and beef it up for road use.

Yeah, the Velorex(cigar shaped) is what I had imagined and it would have to have a bike wheel.
Could you envisage a problem fitting it to an MT(oil in front frame)?

When I made demountable sidecar mounts for Smudge's XBR I used the existing bolting points on headsteady and front engine mounts to fit a little subframe from which the chair was mounted. There was a clamp on the downtube, but this wasn't the sole clamping point and was therefore less stressed.
The rear mount was also a subframe that used existing bolting points.
Auxilary fittings were taken from other point on the lower frame rail.

I' d just like to point out that although I did the plans and cut all the metal I didn't do the welding. This was done by a colleague of Julian's and was superb work.

GC,
Just seen your reply sorry for not aknowledging(?) don't know how I missed it.
Nice to see what can be done. I'm looking for a chassis to go with the velorex body you know for. Can't find one yet but there are a couple of complete ones on ebay at the mo. Just the distance putting me off.
Thanks,
Mark

That Velorex outfit fetched £820!
If I didn't know better, I'd say sidecarring is getting more popular :o

I spoke to the seller today and he said the bloke who bought theVelorex is intending riding it around Ireland, following in the wheeltracks of a family member who did a similar ride on an outfit in something daft like 1909.

My first ride in a sidecar attached to my parents tandem about 1953
