What is going on with them these days. My local club is going to debate membership on Wednesday and have invited a local rep to address the AGM. Anybody know what is going on with them. I have always found them to be a bit lifestyle-esque.

mag are still going strong doing what theyve always done. fighting for riders rights and supporting motorcyclists. is there anything specific you want to know, or is this just a general query. im a lifelong mag member, so i'll answer as well as i can. but you might want to look at either the national mag website, or the site of your local or regional group.

As in the membership card somes with the warranty papers on new Harleys, and stick on pontytails.
Probably a horrible disservice based on memoreis of some decades ago now, but I remember them doing something that horribly upset the MZRiders.
Cheers,

Had a look at the MAG website. This may be something John knows: are they still anti-helmet? There were a few comments about giving riders the choice and that MAG set up in the early 70's to fight the helmet law, but they don't answer the question. Probably me, but is this the sort of question best swept under the carpet these days?
The MAG website at least seemed to know what it was about. I left BMF when it descended into a useless and expensive talking shop supporting the useless and expensive Peterborough show.

I could well be wrong but I think the helmet thing sits quietly on the back burner these days.
As for lifestyle-esque,I took that to mean shaved head, goatee beard, tattoos etc.I am a MAG member tho' and I have none of these.
I would agree with Andy re the BMF.I was a member for twenty years but gave it up after the last round of infighting and loosing vast amounts of members money.

I found the MAG newsletter quite readable.

I had to laugh :D
Flicking through Aprils Back Street Heroes in Tescos earlier , I saw ' Dragon Rally' on the front .Turning to page 91 , halfway down the page was a picture .Took a while for the mince pies to adjust and........there was a picture of four bikes crossing the Menai Straits .Unknown in front , Foxy on his Africa twin , yours truly on his Xs and........Richard on his Xt .Also on the next page fine picture of Bruce Pollard and Ian Taylor, with a bottle of bubbly at the rally .
So Richard old boy , or is it ' righteous bro ', as you are now in BSH can we expect a stick on pony tail ? 8)
Just off to put ape hangers on the Rs

yes, the helmet issue is a central part of mags whole existance. ok, its a bit quieter now, and mag has never ever been anti helmet. what mag has always stood up for has been individual freedom of choice. if you want to wear a helmet, then go ahead, mag wont criticise you, thats your choice. but if you choose not to wear one, then as an individual in a free country, shouldnt you be permitted to? this is an interesting topic in view of a recent news article on the bbc and other networks, where a team of surgeons and a+e doctors called for the compulsory wearing of jackets fited with airbags that would inflate on impact. now whilst this might sound a good idea, to have it forced on us by the govt is a whole different kettle of fish. whats this got to do with lids? well the majority of riders wore helmets when the law making them compulsory came in, yet the govt still introduced the law(and motorcycle accident and fatalitys actually went up) so if we all start buying airbag jackets, would we want to be forced to use them?
but i digress. in short, mag is still anti compulsion and pro rider choice on helmets. to ditch this long held belief would lead mags critics to claim that we (i use the term as im a long term member rather than a spokesman or official of mag) had given up on our principles.
mag is widely recognised by the people in power both i the uk and europe as one of the best campaigning pressure groups in existance, no small compliment when you consider the number of pressure groups and lobbyists that they deal with daily.
