Title: xbr misfire

I have an XBR500 that starts and runs perfectly up to 6500 to 7000 revs,then cuts out.It feels electrical.I've done the obvious- carb,air filter,tappets,petrol tap,new plug etc. to no avail.Any suggestions??It's no big deal,since 6500 revs is normally plenty,but it annoys me because I can't find it.Coil???CDI???Sender unit???Any thoughts gratefully welcomed.

Are you sure the rev limiter is not cutting in about there.

I was not aware that it had a rev limiter.The rev counter is redlined at about 7500,but it never gets there!Is there a limiter,and if there is,where is it?In the CDI box?If it has a faulty limiter,that would certainly explain it.Haynes and Clymer don't make a manual,and I have never seen a wiring diagram for it.

No, of course it doesn't have a rev limiter. But it's hard to track down a high-speed misfire. Some electrical bits break down at higher revs: coil windings and sparking plugs, for example. Make sure your plug is the correct range and either NGK or Denso: Champion and similar 'copy' plugs aren't much good.
