Title: Start the week topic - 2nd Dec.
Post by: guest7 on December 02, 2008, 10:21:12 AM
I do most of my riding during the daytime in the week. I don't have a commute so I don't really get involved in 'rush hour' in the way that regular route people do.

Outside of rush hour, it seesm to me that there's a ceratin competency of driver with, generally, a good attitude.

However, come the weekend and I think that driving standards go to ratshit. Between overly-cautious ditherers and commuters going mad because they can (for one time a week) go faster than 20mph, it's a pain.

These days I'd rather ride in the week than go for a weekend blat. Anyone else feel like that?

True. Just back from a Leeds-Newcastle-Leeds customer visit. 200 miles with nothing worse to contend with than a Polish truck lost in an Industrial estate. It's down to who's out there and what they are doing. The A-1 is full of delivery vehicles, trade vehicles and sales reps. Everyone wants to get from A to B with the least hassle possible. It's our work place and you have to try and get along with your colleauges. We do it everyday and know there is no point getting upset or trying to beat the system. No one makes any attempt to apply big chunks of the highway code mind and it works, the trucks run at 56, everyone else at about 80. On a Tuesday with snow on the ground and a temperature under 3C the A-1 is working better than most Saturdays.

Come Friday night or the school holidays the mix of drivers changes. Then it can get very silly very quickly.

I commute into London most week days and it can be a bit mad. Outside of commuting hours, it seems everything is still mad but happens faster as there is less 'other' traffic to get in the way. Consequrntly, I think I prefer the busier commute as the tin boxes are stuck in jams rather than really racing to get to the next set of lights.

Weekend riding is so rare these days, along with pleasure rides, that writing this almost makes me feel depressed! :'(

My mum had one of those  :o

It was black with totally knackered silver alloys and extra wide low profile tyres that got punctures about three times a week and were a pig to lug to the tyre place on an MZ. It was also un-insurable for 19 year old sons who might have made better use of the lift out roof panels  :'(

Still, having learned to do what 19 year olds do in cars in a Fiat Panda, who needed lift out roofs and fancy alloys  :-X
