An oft asked question .
Does a ' classic ' motorcycle have to be a recognised classic ?
My personal view is that if the bike does what the owner wants ,then it does n't matter whether its British , Italian , Japanese , German , whatever, then a classic it is .
What are the thoughts of the panel ?

I think there has to be an age element and some sort of unique feature. For example I don't think you can really call a bike that's still in production a classic and I can't ever see Chinese CG125's making it (although in say 100 years they will have some sort of value). Now the CG125 itself, why not.
There is IMHO too much snob value in claiming you own a classic bike these days. How many of the old boys who'll drool over an over restored Gold Star would have said 25 years ago that people would be collecting BSA Bantams. They certainly turn their noses up at anything Japanese, which is just plain wrong as there are loads of models that tick every box going. Then there are people who'll claim a 1997 CBR600 is a classic because the 2008 model has the forks mounted the other way up :-\
Personally I'm getting to prefer the term Old Bike.

Such charm, such delicacy of language; truly a master of the carefully crafted and thoughtful interjection!
How does he do it?

I didn't see this coming when I stated this .

Trust me, I am mate, do you really think I didn't evaluate whether or not the distance between our locations made it safe to say it? Another 30 miles closer and I'd have been double-locking the front door and keeping the curtains closed ;)
But seriously... don't tell her :-X
