I can't have spelt metallurgy right can I?
I am trying to get my MSR Whisperlite stove to sit in my Trangia panset. With its legs removed it fits ok, but I'd like to stop it moving around. I thought of using either strips of springy steel to clamp it down or hooked springs.
My question is (and this may be dumber than dumb), would the heat cycles involved reduce the 'springiness' of the items used? The steel burner itself gets close to red hot.

What's wrong with your tea towel GC?
Dry it out nicely, or is it all a bit to snug between the stove and pans?

Reminds me of the Land Rover front footpans with umpteen UNF 1/4" bolts.
however, if you want to use this method, go the springs.

How far does it move - does it just rattle a bit in the burner hole - if so why worry, if it is sliding all over the place then some springs or wedges sould be fine. Maybe the heat will soften them, but you are only holding it in place, not shaking it about? how springy do the springs have to be once they are in place?

I'm with Rog on this one. Its not that critical as they are not being put under any additional stress. Go for it!

PS I was thinking along the same lines after seeing Pat's conversion of the Swedish Army Trangia. The pan set/windsheild combined with the easily available fuel (ie. not meths) would be ideal.

Well, with its legs detached my MSR fits nicely onto the hole in the panset, I'd say the burner is about 5mm wider than the aperture which is ideal. The fuel line fits through the opening in the windshield perfectly well (after a tiny bit of filing).
