The 22nd falls neatly between mine and my brother's birthdays so it seems to be an ideal date for another camping trip to the lovely Llanthoney priory.
Facilities are linited, but the pub is great.
Camping costs the exorbitant amount of £3.00 a night ;)
For more details drop me a mail.
Cheers
GC
p.s. Yes, I'm finally back on-line. I will catch up with TC news over the next day or two.
-
Who are you????????????????????? :P
In my diary. ;D
-
Facilities are linited
???????? ???
I Suspose I could manage it !!!! ;D
Jethro
-
Hey GC how will you be coming? Nissan sunny? Ford Fiesta? or something a bit more tasteful like a Renault Cleo perhaps?
;D
I'll have to ask permission
Steffan
-
Hey Pat, you coming? Haven't seen you since the Dragon
Steffan
-
Hey Pat, you coming? Haven't seen you since the Dragon
Steffan
Depends. Are you going to shout at me again cos I don't have a bivvie bag?? ;D ;D ;D
Planning on being there matey. Are you going to Dent in October?
Talking of the Dragon, when are the tickets on sale??
-
I never did! :( I would never shout at you Pat. :-* No point.... ???
Yep I am going, so long as there is none of the vaguely camp dancing that was indulged in at the Dragon - quite distasteful!
No - can't make Dent - I will only just be back from Ireland on Bullet trip.
Not yet, I checked, but they shouldn't be far away - are you formally attending this year. Or are you going to keep us all suspense, until you appear
;D
Steffan
-
LOL! Yes I am planning on being at the Dragon, but I'll probably ride up on the Saturday rather than do the friday thing.
See you at Llanthoney matey and I promise no dancing. ;D
-
Count me in guys. I was going to do Dent but a longer run a bit later might work better.
Lets hope I can avoid wrecking anything this time. Having got through a Tonneau cover and set of rear pads last time, the three quid camping was the least of my worries!
Andy
-
I'll bring a map etc ::)
Steffan
-
I've been given a ticket for the weekend so - see you at Llanthony.
XT or Beemer - that is the question. Time to give the Tenere a ride out I think. I've been finding it taller than I remembered and keep having silly thoughts about Enfields and MZs with sidecars........
Richard

Richard
What's silly about that? I'd try before you buy though, 20-odd horses is fine if you don't want to fall off in the snow, but 35-plus is IMHO more practical for the likes of the Dragon where you might need to keep up with dual carriageway traffic or do long slopes into a head wind. Dare I suggest an XBR or something with a little more go?
Andy

Andy
Hey Richard, I might have a cheap XBR going for sale soon.
Anyway, back to the meet.
No plans as such, just turn up when you want, although most of us will be there for Friday and Saturday. I thought I might take my big tunnel tent down to act as a club house for the weekend and anyone is welcome to bed down in there (it's bloody huge), but I do snore... loudly.
GC

but I do snore... loudly.
GC
Excruciatingly LOUD ! >:(
Jethro ;)
-
Jethro,
I was wondering if you got my last enfield email?

Andy.........."I'd try before you buy though, 20-odd horses is fine if you don't want to fall off in the snow, but 35-plus is IMHO more practical for the likes of the Dragon where you might need to keep up with dual carriageway traffic or do long slopes into a head wind. I've tried both, MZs fairly exhaustively and always found it more than fast enough for the Dragon or anywhere else, of course with a sidecar on things do rather slow down - Andy Tribble managed to average less than 30 mph from London one year on his, though it was a TS and he did have a trailer and large son as well.
Having ridden a 500 RE (Mr Edwards kindly obliging) a few times it again had enough poke, and loads of character.
And Graham, they are not the same thing as an XBR !! NO doubt religiously maintained, one careful celibate rider or whatever gets written in the ads these days.
See you at Llanthony, though it may yet be for the Friday night only.
Cheers all,
Richard

It must be the roads round here. I had the Bullet before Steve and there was probably just enough go without a chair. Anything that won't cruise above 56 is going to end up with OVLOV looming very large in the mirrors round here. Our MZRC rep has an ETZ with a Velorex chair. Comes over from Hull way for the Sunday meets and still complains about how dangerous it is doing 45 on the M-62 into the headwinds off the Pennines :-\
Sounds like I might miss you at Llanthoney. Can't get off work until 4.15 on the Friday, so I'm getting down as far as Brum Friday night and will be with you all mid morning on Saturday (depending how much beer and Curry I have the night before)!
Andy
-
No motorways or dual carriageways to worry about round here !
-
This will be upon us soon enough.
Who's a definite for the weekend?
GC
-
All being well I will be there to bore you all
-
Now now Bruce... no treading on GC's toes; that's his job ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
...as I was saying, my 14th XBR, or was it my 15th, no I distinctly remember the 15th came from Southend because I remember telling my wife Sue that I couldn't possibly own any more than 15, or was that my first wife, let me see... no I'm sure it was Sue, anyway, the 14th (or perhaps the 13th) XBR I owned was unusual in that the owner had not only kept the seat hump cover, he still had the original tool kit under the seat... or was it in his garage and he gave it to me as I left, oh no, that was my 12th XBR, the seller had a spare carb on the shelf and I asked if I could have it, which was lucky because I ended up fitting it to my 5th XBR which was the red one, well it used to be black but now it's red, although I think I had a blue tank on it when I had carb trouble with it, yes that's it, a blue tank from my 3rd XBR, the one with the Krausers fitted, I gave them away in the end, wish I hadn't now, but that was in the days before Ebay when it was harder to sell stuff, not that Krausers fetch much eh? I saw a set go for £3 the other day, mind you they were pick-up only and he lived in the Shetlands, which, funnily enough is where my 10th XBR came from...
I could go on like this for hours (as you probably know) ;)
GC

Who's a definite for the weekend?
GC
Well if its not too much of an inconvenience i would like to turn up ::)

Whose Pearl anyway ? Is she your landlady ?
I don 't think I can take much more !
-
Should be there on Saturday with any luck. Don't own any tweed and haven't got a landlady. Had an aunt called pearl once, but she died. Can I still come??
-
Can I still come??
Surely that's an issue that should only be discussed between you and your partner? ;)
GC
-
Pearl is a Singer....dont you know !
Or is she a Swinger ?
Jethro......Lady Rover and Land Lady Pilot....
-
Jethro , Lady Pilot ?!!! ........................
-
Lady pilot? That'll be Amelia Earhardt. So does that make Jethro, with his Beemer, Amelia Airhead?
-
Lady Pilot ?!!! ........................
Similar to a Lady Boy but with a larger joy stick (and, before you ask "No! it isn't a Wankel Rotary").
Boyd (aka The Rear Gunner)
-
Right , thats it !
Whoever is responsible for providing me with an image of Miss Marple , in her tweed suit , brogues with a black beard sat astride a beemer , for the love of all things British and good ,
STOP NOW!.......
-
No Tweed Suit, rather picture her wearing stilletoes and stockings, bearded and smoking a pipe.
-
Now that Richard sounds like Jethro ready to hit the town on a saturday night ;D ;D
-
Well I have been out for a pint or two with Richard and Steff in Llanddewi-Brefi ;) ;D
After driving said Land Lady to deliver a bike.
Richard was wearing his spandex Police Uniform waving his truncheon about with gay abandon.
Cant let on what Steff was wearing......The Bush Hat was interesting to say the least. ;D ;D
Jethro
-
in the context I am going to leave a precise definition of bush hat for Jethro to explain
Steffan
Is it any wonder that people don't want to join this club? Is it? Hmmm!! Well??
-
Steffan, was jethro naked from the waist down sat on your shoulders,
and is that what he means when he say's "bush hat" :D ;D
-
Aaaaaaargh !!!!!!!!
Save me !!!!
-
robG was the rear gunner in said Land Lady on Sunday !
And 5 year old god son sat alongside me as navigator !

Jethro will be keeping us GSing!

You can arrive on/in whatever you like as long as you bring a sense of humour, some good pub biking stories and a liking for pickled eggs.
Anyway, do we have an idea of numbers and/or arrival times?
GC
-
Sometime Sat . I'm working 'til 3am and at the moment are down to work on Sat itself !
-
"You can arrive on/in whatever you like as long as you bring a sense of humour, some good pub biking stories and a liking for pickled eggs."
Is it just me or does this sound like someone softening everyone else up for his arrival in something 4 wheeled?
Steffan
-
"pickled eggs". In that case I am definitely bringing some home made cider, chilis and beef jerky. That should sort a few bowels out.
Richard

Oh how dull am i!!!!!!!,sorry, sorry, sorry i forgot this was the Thumper club ???, yes by all means cars, trucks and caravans all welcome, did i mention cars, yes very welcome, bring along your car and tell us a good biking story about a car, anybody got a good story about a f**kin car
-
Does that mean I can turn up in the Landy ????? ;D
I feel a car boot sale coming on.....
Jethro
-
What are these special boots needed for driving cars?? And why are they so popular, special sales are organised for them?? Is it some sort of religious thing?? I mean, these sales do always seem to be on Sundays ???
I'll get my trainers ::)
-
sorry i forgot this was the Thumper club ???, yes by all means cars, trucks and caravans all welcome,
My invitation to attend on whatever you could manage wasn't an imprimatur for all softies and closet weekend warriors to get out their heated cars rather than use their bikes. It was, instead, a reassurance that if that was all you could manage on this weekend then that's ok.
The simple fact is that all of us will arrive on bikes anyway. and all of us will be like-minded biking types. And we will have the strange taste of chilli beer, cider and pickled eggs in our mouths on Sunday morning :)
I'm looking forward to it.
GC
p.s. Steffan, my 4-wheel options are very limited boyo, I don't even own a car ;)
-
Right , I ,m taking the Astra .It,s very handy to carry bike bits around . Anyone fancy an auto jumble on the Sunday morning ?
-
"The simple fact is that all of us will arrive on bikes anyway. "
Is that a firm undertaking then? ::)
"and all of us will be like-minded biking types. " statement of fact or topic for discussion? ;)
"p.s. Steffan, my 4-wheel options are very limited boyo, I don't even own a car"
Didn't slow you down last time old boy, besides nobody said anything about owning a car, presumably it would be possible to carjack some poor bastard and tell them "take this car to Llantony" in a thick stage foreign accent. ;D ;D
Steffan
PS I think Jethro should be given a dispensation to arrive in a landy - perhaps we could take turns year on year. Provided he has a really good bike story. Like " the reason that GSX1000 is mounted on the front bonnet is......

I agree :o with what you have written, well some of it anyway, but what sticks in my throat apart from fish bones,Flem and the occasional pubic hair :P,is people who turn up in cars to bike meets because its raining, cold
or couldn't get his boots on for socks or any other piss poor reason,in my mind that's just as disgusting as going to the dragon with a bike in a van >:(if there bike is genuinely off the road then what can i say.
Nobody on this thread, and correct me if I'm wrong, has stated their bike is off the road.

Mine is - big end blown and two motors in bits on the bench - can I come in the Passat?

Just remind me stef, how many bike do you have :o
-
Do it GC/Elefant style. Pop an MZ motor in the Bullet frame, make a thing out of an old She-Wee to stop the carb freezing up, book an MOT in Llanthoney for Saturday morning and Bob's your uncle ;D
Andy
-

Ah !
Hire Car Boot Sale ?
When I turn up in the Landy at least I'll be able to tow all the bikes out of the muddy field.
I'm sure I've got enough rope to do them all in one go.Some might get a little scratched though when I rope all the forks together. ;D ;D

I tried to get the weekend off to attend, giving it right up until today but my only hope of time of was to swap to a night shift tomorrow (which I'll admit gives me Saturday off but means that I wouldn't get to Llanthony until after dark on narrow roads I don't know. I could still be searching for the site after closing time) So, all in all, I am going to have to give this one a miss - it was only a bit of an idea anyway, that's why I left asking Steve Hayward directions until Monday. Maybe next time. Have a good 'un chaps.
-
Apologies , It appears that work has played its joker .I am unlikey to attend due to change in circumstances .
To all attending Llanthony ,enjoy the ride , be safe and enjoy the beer , banter and simply being there .
Above all , play nice .
Rob .

Damn and blast, it's 8.00 Friday evening and I've just got in from work. I'm contemplating chucking all my kit in the chair and going to Llanthony tonight, but the sensible head is saying "have an early start in the morning".
I'm aiming to get there at breakfast time.
Cheers
GC
