For those who have seen my new Tenere, I have the Khaki coloured one. It has made me think about this particular colour and the ridicule that Radio 2 associates with Khaki / beige and the rest!
I decided on this colour as it doesn't show the dirt as much as the Black or White ones would do.
But then at the Annual Rally I noticed something quite peculiar, that Colin was sporting a dual purpose, shorts / trouser conversion design in a lighter shade of Beige. Not to be left out Bill was modelling a fetching body hugging Hoody in a nice shade of Beige. SteveH had the more fashionable pocket on leg style and not to be left out (I think that we possibly humiliated him into changing his red and white shorts) Pat Cr**h dived into his tent and trotted out revelling in his quite smart trouser style shorts! Now the question I ask is this, Are we all getting old or is BEIGE the in colour?
Pics have been sent to SteveH

Mr D, I resent that slur against my (I thought) rather fetching red & white shorts. I'll have you know they are a great hit with the ladies! Many a day trip to the beach sporting that particular garment has rendered a fair young maiden speechless (albeit as she attempts to draw breath though a vail of laughter). As to the matter of my alternative leg attire, as I told you at the time, they are tope or toffee, not beige!
I can see the need to send Trinny & Suzanne to Huddersfield to educate those still in sack cloth!
;D ;D ;D

Mr Crash, I think that the shorts in question would probably have been more acceptable had a) the legs fitted or b) the shop had them in your size! More importantly had there been a choice of Beige would this have swayed you? and would this more select designer colour enhance your beach prowess / performance. As you must have noted, the more salubrious of our contingent have migrated to a more sophisticated and subtle colour to match our distinct and adult qualities. ;) ;) ;)

I still think Saturday nights should be Hawaiian shirt nights for the Thumper cognoscenti ;) ;D
-
I do believe Mr Dalby, that you may find this a useful accessory to take along to the next rally!

You're only saying that because your Hawaiian shirt is the only one I've seen that made my eyes water... it's a bit busy ;)

You bought a khaki bike because it won't show the dirt so much? Pah! I've got to say it isn't doing a very good job matey ;D As for Colin's attire, he has clothing of every style and colour hidden deep down in those panniers somewhere (along with the TouraTech kitchen sink!) so he was bound to have something to match.
I thought Pat was very fetching in those red/white shorts in a Graham Norton sort of way, they must've been Versace.
Mind you, you've got to admire the new Dalby "stand-on-the-pegs" McGregor-Boorman riding position - but from there Steve it REALLY is a long way down.

There seems to be a theme running through this club that has criticism of my fashion sense at it's core. First I was singled out for my attraction for the colour purple, now my abreviated leg attire is subject to scrutiny.
May I just say Mr D and his fellow critics, my shorts cost a couple of quid from premark and can be changed in a moment, but you sir, have spent a kings ransom for a pooh coloured bike you have to ride all the time! Touche I believe. ;D ;D ;D

Perhaps with all this handbag throwing over fashion we need to enlist Gok Wan to do a makeover and claim the title of the most stylish club... or then again perhaps not :o ;D ;D

I feel that this particular topic has been under wraps for some time now and I'm pleased that the closet Beige enthusiasts have 'come out'. We even have our own officiano (Steve) who not only appreciates the colour but also its many and varied shades. I feel that this summers IN colour will be Beige or variants and we can be the leaders. I say to you all wear your Beige with pride, go out there and strut your stuff, but don't get too exited 'cos it does show in the most indescrete places!
Have a nice summer and remember Primarc is the place to shop!
SteveD
PS and as for the bike, it's Desert Khaki, only because the little Japs don't have the same appreciation for Beige as the Brits and it wouldn't look quite right on the tank! ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

Hmmm, must be a retro thing, I remember when 3/4 of BL's output was beige, or "biscuit" or whatever :o Hope the Desert Khaki is more reliable! ;) ;) ;) :P

If Mrs Squirrel and I ever have a daughter, I shall name her Beige in honour of this club ;D ;D ;D
Can you get cardies in beige? Maybe some matching slippers!

Perhaps gentlemen, in view of the degree of closet beigism this thread has uncovered, we might consider a club affiliation to this lot......

Mr Squirrel, perhaps this may offer a compromise between your particular choice of leg acutriment and the emerging beigist revolution which appears to be taking place in the club......

Oi, Pat!
That's some affliction you'd inflict upon a wee bairnie, worse than the JC, 'Boy named Sue'! Let's face it, there's something nondescript, neigh, flat about b****.
Wikipedia has this as the lead entry:
"Beige is a pale yellowish brown color. [ See, can't make their minds up! :(]
Beige (#F5F5DC)
The term originates from beige cloth, a woolen fabric left in its natural color. It has since come to be used for a range of light shades chosen for their neutral or cool appearance, and is often (mis)used for light brown shades.
The first recorded use of beige as a color name in English was in 1887."
I suppose the fact that it doesn't appear to be an Americanism, but the usual English 'bastardisation' of the French language, may raise a wry smile. Agincourt! ;) You see beige is that nondescript it disapperas from view on the page [Steve#222 comment] :)
Vermilion, ochre, cerise, red, have colour and do'nt we need it? I suspect SteveD will now become even more of a target for myopic drivers, even with his headlight on mainbeam from within a shroud of beige. Get the dayglo 'Sam Brown' on and the 'My Little Pony' pink wellies! Genuine camel dung would be more fetching than the current excrescence daubed on the bodywork, genuine 'Lawrence' lookalike!::)
Toodle pip, Bill.

I will discuss this topic in greater detail when I come back from Denmark / Norway in two weeks. In the meantime keep up the good work and keep buying trendy Beige gear. Bill I will be up to see you hopefully later this year to show you just how unique Beige can be on a bike! ;D

Stubbie shorts - are you really suggesting that Mr Squirrel is a stubbie? Is that not a little personal - particulaly as he lives in Wales - the stubbiest of the home nations stature wise...

Nope I'm comparing the *colour* of Steve's new bike... but if you want to compare it to a seventies allegro I'll hold the coats while you gentlemen step outside ;) ;D ;D
