Ive been following the thread on Boyd's problem, you guys are fantastic, typical bikers.
However I have been left wondering. How many laps of GT Britain is that? Do you go clockwise or anti clockwise? Sounds much like the Tasmanians.
Boyd for what its worth, I hope you have a lot of fun and get through it all. There is a small group over here that travel a minimum of 500 kays to get breakfast, and they dont regard themselves as Iron Butters just long distance gourmets.

In my not inconsiderable experience of the great south land, one tends to speak of distance in terms of time. For example: "How far to xyz?" "About six hours."
Given the option I would rather travel there than here, roads are good and there is nothing like the traffic volume. Understandable when you have a 1/3 of the population and a land mass the size of continental USA.

In response to the gentle goading from our Antipodean brethren:
This is not really a straightforward 1110 miles (minimum) in 36hrs. dash. The main 'problem' is finding, and then getting photographic of, the check points. None are manned, some are daytime only, all have varying points allocation, and we won't be told the minimum points required until Friday night. I think, or hope, that this is because not all contestants will have access to GPS and it might even out the contest a bit. Alan Stringer (another TC good egg) has lent me a GPS unit but I am only taking it along as a backup. The organisers have stated that GPS is not compulsory and that some entrants will have more trouble with it than without it.
If you are interested in long distance/short time check out www.ironbuttuk.org (http://www.ironbuttuk.org) for the Saddle Sore and Bun Burner Awards (a lot more extreme). There is even, which no one has done yet, Nordcapp to Southern Spain Award - if you have nothing to do this Summer why not give it a whirl!!

Right on Steff, anything under 20 minutes is next door, anything under an hour is Metro anything under a day is intra state and then from there is a proper ride. Big bore bikes and Honda tractors are the norm here.
Our next branch get together is in Sept when we travel to Geraldton, a mere 500kays from Perth. We usually score some members from the Eastern states too. Some of our members of branches in WA are heading off to Townsville for the National AGM, only a mere 5300+ kays.(57 hours riding time each way)

Would that be accross the Nullabor and then up through Alice, fourways and the Isa or will they go over the top via Broome?

Nullabor as it happens is Latin Null - no, none, empty of . Abor - tree.
Hence Nullabor - empty of or no trees.

Perth to Norsman, turn left and go straight for 1200 kms to Ceduna, then on to Port Augusta, then via Broken Hill, Turning left just north of Dubbo, on to Townsville. Some of our more adventurous will no doubt go via Darwin.
Others will drop down to Syd or Melb to catch up with freinds and rellies. They usually take about a month for the round trip. In 2010 we will host it in Albany, 41/2 hours south east out of Perth. We average about 5000 bikes per event. Any takers?? You need to be over 40

Hi Kurt, if someones got a spare Guzzi I'll give it a go, can't be doing with all the messing about with chains!! Last time I went through Norseman it was just about shut, with tumbleweed rolling up the main drag. Stayed in a rather cold ramshackle caravan on a site just out of town, next stop was Perth, a lot nicer.
