Title: Sulking with Hagon :-(
Post by: squirrelciv on October 01, 2006, 05:24:52 PM
Had a pleasant afternoon polishing my recently returned rear wheel spoilt when I noticed one of the spokes wasn't seated correctly in the hub!! Tapped it with a pin hammer(very gently) and it slipped into place no problem, (but then required me to tighten the nipple, which I did till the spoke 'rang' like the rest.)

Trust me, Hagon will be getting a right ear bashing on monday, and no more work from me! Call themselves leaders in wheel building! Pah!

I'll let you know what they have to say for themselves later.

I have no experience, but I've heard both good and bad about them...

They got the offset on my back wheel wrong and scratched the front rim in places.

Yep, thats what they did to my mates wheel.  And, I believe, wanted to charge him carriage to repair...

He did it himself in the end.

To be fair they got the offset correct as per the diagram but the rim width was diffrent making the centerline offset wrong. I did put on the diagram that the offeset was based on a  rim width of XX but it was missed.

Spleen well and truely vented with the result that Hagon are sending a courier to collect the wheel (at their cost) and will redo it, and return it the day they get it. Pete couldn't have been more appaulogetic and will be tracing the worker who did it. Result I'd say :-)

Just goes to show, sometimes it pays to complain.

I'm setting off really early and going to Boyd's for around 9:30-10(ish) to help load the van. Welcome to meet up and come along, after all the more hands the lighter the job :-)
Post me off forum if your still keen, and we'll figure out where to meet.

Another kick in the goolies today :-( Hagon have gone over my wheel with a magnifying glass and having looked at some stress points I've highlighted, think the rim too thin for the re-alignment. Basically, by having the spokes pull the rim off centre as it were, the angle out of the rim is causing things to distort. This is a poor rim that lacks raised 'dimples' where the spoke nipple exits the rim.

My only answer has been to buy a better quality new rim and get it drilled to suit. In fairness to Hagon, and by way of an apology, they are only charging for the rim and not the work (or re-work) so I thought I might as well get them to re-coat the hub while they were at it (and managed to blag a discount for that too :-))

Needless to say the credit card is taking a big hit for this one, so expect sulks and tales of woe, especially when Mrs C finds out.
