Title: SRX 600 Cylinder base gasket leak
Post by: guest381 on March 05, 2008, 05:48:48 PM
having had a couple of SRX's I've found that after a while they seemed to produce a oil weep around the front right (view from sat on the bike) of the cylinder base. is this a common problem? is it the right hand cover gasket thats gone around the oil filter housing?? any ideas? ??? ???

funny that......not had an oil leak there on any of mine...is it definitely coming from the base gasket?
the oil filter cover gasket (O  ring) is quite a way from the cylinder base, I think i'd thoroughly clean the engine with gunk, then go for a run and see exactly where the leak first appears

Mine had a leaking base gasket, which is one of the reasons for stripping it. The other problem area is the paper gasket sealing the side casing, just in front of the oil filter housing. Not quite sure why but the casing is quite thin.

My 620 race bike did that (for a few years!), it had a bit of silicone seal patched around the area which stopped the weep for quite a while & when it started to get a bit messy (after quite a few months!), I just easily stripped the silicone off, cleaned the area thoroughly, & re-applied some silicone, which again lasted for a few months before needing re-doing. It passed scruteneering regularly & never affected the performance!
I suppose it's a case of how bad is the leak & do you really want to do a strip?
