The Triumphs exhaust baffles are made from one of those amazing materials the bike manufacturers seem to find useful. They are about as structually sound as wet cardboard and yet corrode faster than a Kebab in an acid bath. They are were no doubt originally held in place by bolts whose heads were made of cheese, had threads that gripped tighter than a Yorkshireman's holds his wallet and yet would have defied drilling by a nuclear powered laser; But I got them replaced with stainless after my first tyre change ;D
I picked up a new pair of standard silencers on e-bay, so there is no fear of any resulting mechanical hassles. :)
However, not wanting to waste what might be servicable, I was wondering what would happen if I knocked through the corroded baffles in the otherwise OK silencers? I don't really want more power, but wouldn't mind a bit better fuel consumption. Is this achievable or are all such tune up's, re-jetting etc. just going to make power at best and noise at worst? ???

Not sure how old your Triumph is but be carefull it dont have a CAT fitted if you start work on the silencers. And is it not fuel injected? If so you need apower commander

Triumph after market silencers come with 115 main jets, standard is 110.
Fitting these Triumph reckon on 5-7hp extra.
I had some made for mine and fitted 117.5 mains, slightly larger pilots and did away with the secondary air injection gubbings.
The extra horses are noticeable.
The jets can be swapped with out taking the carbs off if you have a 1/4 drive socket set with a short extention and screwdriver bits.
