Title: Dragon Rally 07
Post by: guest7 on September 13, 2006, 09:06:50 PM
Anyone got any plans for the next Dragon?

I think it unlikley that we will be heading off to the Jack Frost again on the Friday :-)

I might be making it a three day event again and leaving Cardiff on the thursday. Rhayader was a good Thursday stopover 2 years ago, with Karaoke and a meat raffle featuring in the evening's silly entertainments. I reckon I will do that again.

Friday night in Betws is on teh cards, but if the rally is in Anglesey again then a more northerly stopover might be better.

Any thoughts?

Oh yes, we had a chat in the pub last week and we agreed that a black tie dress code would be good for the Saturday night... time to brush off the dinner jacket :-)

I was thinking that Llanberis might make a good alternative to Bettws this year. That said I am yet to catch up with the Thumperclub before the Dragon yet.

So it looks like it's going to be Betws on friday then.

I suppose I'd better book a B&B... it will never be that hotel at Pentrefoelas again, although to be fair it was cheap and breakfast was good. The manager was an arse though and his attitude stank.

Better breakfasts by far in Llanberis, we could even stay at Petes Eats.  Dirt cheap climbing bunkhouse.

Pete's Eats looks like a laff, I'm up for that if anyone else is.

It's looking like a crowd of us are doing Rhayader on the Thursday too. I suspect we will be booking the Liverpool House B&B again, although for the hardier souls the Wyeside campsite will be open (B&B it is then).

Woohoo! the winter rally season is nearly upon us :-)

I have booked three bunks (Lampeter and Coast brigade) so far at Pete's for the 9th as per the CMC site. Looks like we're on Anglesea again!!

Steff, if you're already booking places could you add me to the list too?

Do you need a deposit?

Cheers

Thanks for sorting the bunkhouse out, I spoke to Simon Morgan and he says he wants to do Llanberis too, should he contact them himself?

I'll be there early Saturday morning, can't make Friday because wifey has once again booked in some guests without consulting me :-(

HI All
Cannot make the rally - but I am guessing from a couple of the comments above that Pete's Eats is a new experiance?  If it is not please ignore, if it is well you should be in for a treat.  Pete's Eats is a mecca of North Wales climbing.  When we were benighted in Lllanberis pass the weekend before christmas she who is now my wife and I spent the night alternating between freezing and discussing what we were going to have to eat in Pete's - as it was we headed for the Snowdon Cafe instead - it was on the way home to some sleep and warmth.  Pete's produces some of the finest 'fighting' food going, pints of wonderful tea, chip butties including what must be a pound or two of freshly cooked chrispy on the outside, fluffy in the middle chips etc.  SO make sure you not only use the bunkhouse but sample the offerings of the cafe, despite it being full of walkers and gods of vertical dance. Yep, Llanberis will be a first time for me, I haven't visited the town since a school trip in the 70s.

I haven't got anything against the usual Friday night in Betws before the Dragon, but I'm always game to try new things. The lesson is: all the good things you do were new to you once.

My rough plan is to head for Rhayader after work on the Thursday to get pissed with Jethro and Rob. Ride to the Dolwen Garage cafe for breakfast on Friday then head off to Betws for an afternoon perusing camping shops. Ride up to Llanberis and have a convivial sherry with Richard, Steffan, Simon Morgan and others. Up at 8.00 on Saturday, down to the caff for breakfast then off to the rally checkpoint.
