Title: Paint...
Post by: pigafetta on November 16, 2007, 11:56:05 AM
Does anybody have any recommendations for Matt black rattly-can spray paint? I'm not looking for a professional finish or anything, it just has to look fairly neat and stay on without turning to snot when I inevitably splash petrol all over it. Is the standard Halfords stuff ok? I once spent ages doing a lovely shiny black tank with Halfords tins, I finished it with a couple of coats of clear lacquer. I was really chuffed with it right up to the point when I filled it with petrol, predictably sploshing a bit when I took the nozzle out. Instant aspic!

Cheers,
Dave B

Ive used the halford lacquer over the top of their standard paints with some sucess. I used it on my engine covers and it seems to have survived a few fuel spillages. The finish isnt brillaint but thats probably the way I applied it.

I've used the stand Halfords stuff and found it to be absolutely fine. Most standard air dry paints are likely to be soluble in petrol, you just need to chose a suitable petrol resistant clear lacquer.
