hi all
i am looking to get insurance for my GB 400TT and they want to know its approx value!i dont have a clue anybody know where i can get a guide?or if anyone has any idea haow much a 1987 GB400TT in reasonable condition is worth?

Steve's right. I only give a value over £1000 when such a low figure won't be believed. I only go Fully comp to get my NCB protected. It's legalised mugging but that's life >:(
If you actually want insurance that's worth something you could look for an agreed value policy. This costs more especially as they usually charge for someone to come and look at the bike. Be prepared to support your value with adverts from the mags (would GB's be about in the VJMCC mag as well as our own estemed publication?) and short timed screen prints off e-bay. You'll still have a negotiation (rubbish the bikes in the adverts, they don't list whatever flash dongle you payed ££££ for etc. ;D), but in my one and only experience the assesor was really interested in the bike (Velocette) but didn't really have a clue (his main job was classic cars). A nicely restored and very clean Velo took him above his "standard" researched value and a few receipts for electronic ignition, new carb and rebuilt wheels took him to the value John the owner wanted. The policy however cost over twice what Carole Nash offered over the phone simply because the "you tell us £3000 but we all know in our hearts we'll only ever pay out £1500" factor is taken away. The next year you are also pretty tied to the same company up to the cost of another assesor visit and I think they know it!
This was a few years back, but I think this policy was by Footman James.

The VJMC will probably be able to provide valuations for their members.
A GB400 recently sold on Ebay for £1,320. I'd say that any British-registered GB400 in nice cosmetic condition should be worth around £1500. A pristine GB500, on the other hand, will be worth £1500 - £2000, if only because a lot of people prefer the humped single saddle (and the perceived extra ooomph of that 100cc's).
I see a lot of £2500 - £3000 GB500's advertised, does anyone know if people are getting that sort of money for them?
The GB is unusual in that a lot of people are out there looking for them. Perhaps the exact opposite of the situation for XBRs! ::)
