Hello all!
I was talking to my Supermono buddy Ash Norrington tonight.
He desparately wants to race again next year, but is needing a bike. Or really just a decent chassis for his fast engine.
And Sam Gleeson is looking for an alternative to his RGV-Rotax.
JohnG, got a chassis or a spare bike? SteveL...??
So if anyone hears of anything, can you give me a shout? We need people to play with!
Thanks again,
andy

Got that ZXR250 rolling chassis in very good nick! all in good condition & ready to roll (just needs an engine (A Honda 650 was removed from it) straight frame (oil in frame) is good, wheels are good, USD forks have been rebuilt & a new rear shock fitted, + tank, seat unit & fairing etc.
Give him my number.............cheers........ ps, I have a std 650slr motor if he wants to tune it???? :)

Possibly a stupid question but would it be practicle to run a civilised version of this sort of bike-large thumper in race type frame-on the road?
-
I hope so as I am putting my Rotax lump in a TZR 250 roiller - very slowly but we are getting there.
Mind my mocked up piks of a Triumph twin in there look good too....

Hi Dave
Not a daft question at all. In fact I think the idea is gaining a bit of cred with big manufacturers of late
my bike last year, a tuned SRX (pics here)
www.team-thumper.wetpaint.com
was a roadbike, and there are other roadframes in the class.
Notably:
www.gordonsalive.com
What are you thinking? We could all club together, and buy the Matchless name...!! now wouldn't that be fun?!

What am I thinking, who knows?Whilst I have loads of ideas unfortunately nothing ever comes of them.I have a mate with a KTM LC4.Nice bike, light, torquey, quick enough, big brakes etc,but why so tall? Can you not get something similar in what would have at one time been called a road bike?A modern(ish) sporting single. No demand I suppose, everyone want four cylinder sportsbikes.Another mate has a small breakers that always has a few thumpers in,I often find myself looking at them and having daft ideas.Something like, say,a dr650 in an RGV frame etc.The only thing there is it would probably be a bit cramped for a lardy git like me.

This idea was shelved by Cagiva:

(nice legs, huh?!)
And this:
http://www.crs-motorcycles.com/indexENG.htm
but sadly , you just somehow know that its not going to catch the mainstream :'(
Dave, I think what you are describiing is the supermono race class. Or maybe not quite, but only a little more civilised...
If you're interested, have a look at www.supermono.co.uk
cheers

not a silly question at all trophyDave. I run a TT540 worked yam engine in a RGV combined VJ21 and 22 chasssis see current photos page (orange naked) and its the best road bike Ive ever ridden in decades. A thumper that handles like a race bike and weighs 120kg wet stops on a dollar andsounds like thunder. how could you beat it. Been there with the big >1000cc bikes for 20yrs and this is MUCH better. go for it, it is pure motorcycling pleasure.

Andy......as you know...the blue bike is a TZR chassis with a fairly ok srx lump....and might be available rolling or complete....but waiting to hear if 'gordon' is available...
Reading Mike's blog......was very suprised to to see that 'gordon' was 137lb (against 120 odd for that old tzr/srx lump) and 61 bhp on the dyno at snetterton directly after the first race....and i figure that the old track iron was putting out about that.......why weren't you up there with him?? :-)
ok ok i know....tyres....suspension...fairing.....wrong week....crap mechanic.....still mate...look on the bright side...the only 2 supermono's to highside at sears were mike/gordon ....and you :-)....hall of fame for you!
cheers
