I haven't had the latest invoice, but the guy I use has consistently beaten all the other small printers in the area. It's produced from a 'Publisher' file and printed out using a big photocopier type of printer. In the past it's been produced using a variety of applications, including Quark and (spit!) Word.

The newsletter is basically a big batch of double sided A4 pages. Publisher is clever in that it automatically prints it out in 'printers pairs' so that the front page is printed alongside the back page on the same sheet, etc.

I don't know what you mean by "where is the cut-off".

Graham!

An excellent piece of journalism!  I (and I think I speak for the club) really enjoy and look forward to it.

However, I don't think I'm being out of order by suggesting that we need more articles, photos and comments from club members, rather than the usual suspects.   >:(

Come on chaps!  Its OUR club, lets not let it fall away.

(minor) rant over

Hurrah that Scotsman  ;)

And on that note, I intend printing another letter in two weeks time to bring us back in line with our yearly quota.

All project updates, stories and ramblings gratefully received. It doesn't have to be a massive effort, a few paragraphs will do.

Cheers

oooh!  This is almost live!

Will send you a short end-of-season report, but Andy's Life Story and Associated Twitterings is getting a bit boring...

(anyway, thats what blogs and Team-Thumper websites are for!!)

So if you don't like my drivel, put some of yours in??

GC  Cut off - well if there is no setting up cost then it is just cost per copy.  If there is a set up cost there is a point where the amortised set up cost means it is cheaper to photocopy in the liburary or print on the desktop.

There is a fancy word for the setting up in printers sets and I cannot remember it - but if I could I would know where to find the application I have on the mac to do it...

Did someone mention to me that an article pertaining to the indefatigable nature of 2 strokes saw the light of day in this journal. I must say if this disturbing rumour is true then standards are slipping a bit.

Graham,

Are we going to get that XBR FAQ article you mentioned a couple of months back?

Incidentally magazine is great thank you. Enjoyed Andy's 'Solar garage project' very funny indeed - or is it just my sense of humor!

It costs us a small fortune to process our Mag, we have a lady who types it all out and then takes it to get commercially copied and collated. As she has been doing it for a few years, it may be difficult to show her how to do it electronically. BTW GC I havent as you have noticed been too active lately due to hardware probs and lack of time. Do you still want the odd antipodean news to put in your newsletter?

No it's quite alright Steffan, it was only something about how they always foul their plugs and the owner wouldn't trust his to take him on a little tour to the fatherland...  ;) :P

Setting up cost? None of the print shops I use have ever charged for that, but I have always had the magazine either photocopied or printed from a file (Quark, Publisher, PDF, etc.) All the layout is done by me before printing.

I always present the artwork in the correct size and format, so this might help. For instance, for our A5 booklet, I supply a file of A5 pages arranged in printers pairs. Early on I used to take high quality printouts of the A4 sheets (with the pages laid out in pairs) and they would run it through a photocopier printing double sided sheets.

If you are looking for some cheap printing then send the artwork to me and I'm confident that my fella will beat your previous quotes.
