Are wheels rated for weight ? ( possibly a stupid question )
I'm looking for some replacement wheels for my Skorpion.
I've been offed some off a 125 which is some 45Kg lighter than the Skorpion.
Also has anyone changed their Skorpion wheels if so what to ?

My understanding.
Wheels made for racing will be close to the limit for minimum weight wheel for the bike - depending on what youpay and how long they need to last. Road wheels are massivly over engineered - allows errors in casting etc without getting bankrupted by the courts. So sticking a set of TZR125 wheels on your Aspencrate would not be the smartest idea, but a set of TZR125 wheels on a 600 single should be alright. Remember that the SZR6 is a TZR with a thumper lump.
Loads of people seem to be willing to fit RD500, Rotax lumps etc to the Cagiva Mito chassis and there is the Husaberg Vtwin in an Aprilia 125 roller too I have seen, so will probably be OK.

Thanks for that Rog you've just confirmed what I thought .
I was looking at some very rough Cagiva mito wheels ,but I've had a better offer........
I'm picking up 3 wheels ( 1 front and 2 rear ) tyres ,sprockets and disks in good condition for £30.00 tomorrow night.
I see how the conversion goes and report back ;D

No need to worry as Cagiva use the same wheels on the 125 Mito and 600 River.
Front disk is 4mm bigger and the rear disk is 10mm smaller.
Getting a Mito caliper and bracket should sort the disk difference on the rear.
Bearings, once the tube has been removed are bang on ,except the one in the sprocket carrier.
I haven't looked at the front yet but I have noticed that the wheel is a 2.75 not a 3.00 I doubt if anyone will notice ........

Hi mate,
Not sure if this help or hinders, but apparently with "small bike" (ie. 125) wheels a big single can give problems re the cush drive. The Tigcraft Minimono's use Honda RS125 wheels with a special cush.
But these are tuned WRF? 450 motors putting out 55+ horses. I'm not sure about power output for these actually. Maybe more... I'd say "suck it and see". Its not going to be *really* used in anger, so let us know how you get on....

Good question Andy ,
I've just put my traveller on the road and I keep hitting the rev limiter.
I didn't realise how much time I spent in the red on the sport.......
And it was the sport I managed to brake the front wheel on in the first place.....
Found out today the guy I've been using to sort any engineering problems out has packed up and moved away.
The front brake caliper needs moving by 2mm :-[ , or a smaller disk to be found ,
or I could change the forks ..........
This is only because I'm to tight to spend £160 on a new front wheel ,
I normally spend 2 months messing about with ideas then spend out on the original part.
In the mean time the garage gets fuller with more junk / failed ideas.........
P.S can anyone give me the dimensions of a TDM motor ? ;)

If you want to swap out I can send you a swag of info courtesy of Bill on the MZOG list. Personally I have a set of TZR wheels (1/2" narrower in the rear) for mine although there are a few bits that I need before I start fitting. Email me off list and I can send you the unedited contents. On the front the tangs need shortening, speedo goes, and you need an different spindle + some trick bits to make up the difference on the stanchion. The rear requires a 18mm spacer on the sprocket carrier and the now infamous belgarda.SZR caliper and carrier + bushing for the chain adjusters and a new spindle.

It sounds complicated ,I like straight forward ,Nothing ever is though.
But it might put the right ideas in the right places ,If you know what I mean.
There's a TZR 250 front wheel on Ebay at the moment Item 160154549028
Is your TZR disk the same size as the Skorpions and the same as the one on that wheel ?
It's the extra 4mm in the brake disk diameter that's holding things up.
I'm still keeping an eye out for a Skorpion front wheel ,Just in case........

The parts you're after are off a belgarda (see germany) and or a SZR. The right wheels off a TZR are 3" front and 3.5" rear, although if you can get the SZR then you may get a 4" for the rear. The front disc is as follows:
Brake disc:
OD = 320 MM
ID = 64 MM
hole ring diameter = 80 MM
with 6 holes 8.5mm Ø
offset 5mm
They are not usually cheap and I had to get one from germany although I am still chasing an SZR rear caliper (ebay mix up) so the guy is sending the mounting plate rear and the disc front in place of the rear caliper and plate which he sent to Russia. It is complicated getting the right bits, at the moment I have a brembo caliper off a mito on the front - loads better than the gremica although I using the original MC. On the rear I am running a brembo MC and OE caliper. As a result of both these transactions I now have two Mito rear calipers and mounting plate - no use on a skorpion. In the end it is a machined bits that will really cause the trouble and using a brembo on the front means that the clocks (mine still work) are scrap and have to be replaced with something else.

The disk I have is exactly the same as yours except 6mm off set ,
This might be an error in my measuring.
Why are the Mito rear calipers and mounting plates no use ?
Is it size of the rear disk ?
If it is I might be intrested ....
I'm going to keep playing with the Cagiva river wheels for the time being..
